We've are proud to have been working on the grounds through 2026.

The foyer in the main building came first. Aluminium replacement, matched to the existing brickwork profile, put in over a school holiday so the boys came back to a working entrance.

Then the classrooms across the older block. Windows that were 40-plus years old, half-seized, single glazed, and letting winter in. Replaced in phases so teaching wasn't interrupted.

Then the change-room dividers in the sports pavilion. Custom white aluminium shower cubicle dividers.

Old school buildings need people who know both the modern spec and how to work around what's already there. Not every window gets ripped out. Some get restored. Some get replaced with something that reads the same as the original but performs like modern glazing should.

Every school on the peninsula has this problem. Estate boards have it. Heritage-listed commercial buildings have it. We've been solving it since 1989.

If your school, estate or commercial building has windows on their last legs, come and talk to us. Easier to plan than to react.

Aluminium at the coast. The question we get every second week.

Does it rust? No. Aluminium doesn't contain iron, so rust is not what happens to it. What can happen, if the spec is wrong, is corrosion. The coating fails, salt air gets to the bare metal, and you see pitting and chalking within a couple of winters.

Three things get the spec right for a Cape Town coastal job:

Marine-grade powder coating, not standard architectural. It's thicker, and formulated for salt exposure.

Stainless steel fixings all the way through. Any zinc-plated screw in a coastal frame is a rust bloom waiting to happen.

Drainage detailing that actually gets water out. Weep holes clear, sills sloped, no traps where salt water can sit against the frame.

Get those three right and coastal aluminium is a long-term answer. Skip one and you're back on the ladder in two years.

If your job is in Sea Point, Camps Bay, Clifton, Hout Bay, Kommetjie or anywhere the salt spray reaches, come and talk to us before you sign the aluminium quote. Easier to get right the first time than to argue about it in year three.

FAQ: How long does a glass install take?

Fair question, and the honest answer is: it depends on the job.

Same day is most repairs. A broken pane, a cracked shower door, a mirror that's come off the wall. We get in, get it sorted, and go.

1 to 2 days covers a standard frameless shower, a small balustrade run, a splashback. Templated one day, fitted the next.

3 to 5 days is a bigger frameless setup with multiple panels, a longer balustrade, a statement door. More components, more setting out.

2 to 4 weeks is where steel frame restoration, heritage window rebuilds, and big commercial jobs land. Fab shop time, curing time, coordination with other trades.

Every quote we give includes a realistic time on site. If we say Tuesday, we're on your driveway on Tuesday.

Frameless shower enclosure fitted against a fluted stone wall. Toughened glass, minimal hardware, no framing.

The whole point of a wall like that is texture. A framed enclosure would fight it. Frameless keeps the eye on the fluting and the light coming down from the skylight above.

Frameless glass doors fitted into the original timber archway at Cellars Hohenort Hotel in Constantia. The arch is one of the features guests recognise, so a framed door would have done the wrong job. It would have cut the shape in half.

Toughened glass cut to the arch profile, minimal hardware tucked into the jamb, no top rail. The timber does the framing. The glass does the weather.

Planning a reno? Ask us early. It's a cheaper decision now than after the fact.

Frameless glass showers in a Constantia home, fitted with Astro Build.

Three bathrooms, three different rooms, one detail running through all of them: nothing between the space and the finish. No frame lines, no visible hardware once you're standing inside. Toughened glass, minimal clamps, panels sized to the room.

The chandelier shower is the one that catches you first, but the herringbone floor and the subway-tiled walk-in are doing the same work in a quieter way.

Planning a reno? Ask us early. It's a cheaper decision than after the fact.

Antique mirror wall panels next to a staircase in Cape Town, fitted with Spotlight Kitchens and Washirika3o Construction.

Antique mirror is silvered glass with the ageing done on purpose. The cloudy, mottled finish is worked into the coating during manufacture, so what you see is a decorative material rather than a mirror that needs polishing. It reflects light without giving you a sharp reflection, which is what makes it work as a wall panel rather than a bathroom mirror.

The stairwell is the right room for this. You want the bounce of light but you don't want to be met by your own face on the way up.
