Why you need a Certificate of Compliance (COC).
Having a valid Certificate of Compliance (COC) is about more than just keeping up with regulations. A COC is proof that the electrical systems in your home are safe and operating properly, reducing the chances of electrocution or electrical fires. A COC is only valid for a maximum of two years, or until the electrical system is altered in any way. It sounds like a short time, but think about how much can happen in two years. Previously, COCs would be valid as long as there were no alterations to the electrical system. With a shorter validity period, a valid COC lets you know that the property was recently inspected and at that time, all electrical systems were working properly and safely.
