Two lines. Two pressure drops. One answer.

A pool in Bloubergstrand was losing water - no obvious sign, just a little less every time you looked.

We started where the water starts. A pressure test on the jet line showed a drop from 0.51 bar to 0.44 bar. A second test on the skimmer line dropped from 0.40 bar to 0.22 bar. Two separate readings, two separate drops.

Before jumping to conclusions, we ruled things out. Dye tests on the skimmer fl**ge, jet fl**ges and pool lighting - no dye loss. Not the cause.

Acoustic testing gave us the answer: positive frequency changes on both lines, right at the pump and filter installation.

That's the difference between finding a leak and guessing at one. Test everything. Rule out what it isn't. Confirm what it is.

Ever tried to DIY a leaking pipe?

You saw the damp patch on the wall and figured that's where the leak had to be. So you opened it up.

Nothing. No pipe, no crack, no water. Just a hole in your wall. And a lot of frustration.

That's because water seldom drips straight down. It travels along pipes and through slabs, then shows up wherever it finds the easiest way out. The damp patch is rarely the leak, it's just where the water finally gave up.

What's the difference between 100 and 1000?

Doesn't look like much. Until it's litres. Per day. Disappearing straight into the ground.

A recent client in Rozendal, Stellenbosch area had a borehole pump that wouldn't stop running.

No wet patch, no obvious sign, just a pump working overtime. We closed every tap and watched the meter. It kept moving.

Pressure testing on the main line dropped from 4.73 bar to 0.73 bar in under two minutes. Tracer gas and acoustic testing both pointed to the same spot, buried beneath an enclosed gulley.

It turned out that hundreds became thousands. Make that 9,000 litres a day. 270,000 litres a month.

Sometimes the only symptom is a pump that won't stop working.

It started with a damp patch on the bathroom ceiling.

The easy answer was to point at one pipe and call it done. We don't work like that.

We tested until we found the active leak, a joint on the shower line. Then we were honest: much of the damage was older moisture trapped in the slab, with a couple of other sources to rule out.

So we didn't just hand over a repair.
We handed over a plan.

Fix the leak, then outline the damp in pencil and watch it. If it shrinks, it's solved. If it spreads, we know where to look next.

Leak detection isn't a guess. It's elimination, done in the right order.

His pool kept losing water.

No crack, no puddle, no 'tell-tale signs'.

The easy answer was to guess and start digging. Not us.

We pressure-tested each line.
The jet line dropped. The skimmer line dropped.
Acoustic testing pinned both leaks to the pump and filter, and picked up a third culprit: a worn valve quietly bleeding water out during normal filtration.
A dye test cleared the skimmer, jets and pool light.

Our findings provided an exact plan of what needed to be done.

Open up the pump and filter for access.
Expose the jet and skimmer lines. Repair them.
Replace the faulty valve seal and pressure-test again.Then backfill and put it all back.

Nope. None of these.
