In the mood for Oud?

This delightful old oud came in for a finish rejuvenation, restring and setup. I love restoring these. Around here they're quite uncommon as far as fretless string instruments go.

That said, I have done quite a few fretless conversions of classical guitars to make accessible and easy to tune oud-like instruments. Feel free to contact me to commission one ;)

This bass had seen it all. It was completely rebuilt after a terrible accident involving a trailer flip on a highway.

The broken neck was rebuilt with a new neck and pegbox scarf, broken tuners were fabricated, the many breaks in the top and sides were patched and reinforced. It was a mess of broken parts when it was brought in. It now lives and breathes again and has been rehomed to a local high school to give great joy to future generations.

A beautiful fully solid wood bass with a lovely spruce top, violin corners and an uncommon but lovely mahogany back. This bass was a joy to play, and a pleasure to bring back to life.

Correcting a badly repaired headstock is one of the best parts of the job.

This upright bass had been the recipient of a poorly aligned headstock repair. The entire pegbox was leaning forward and there were dubious shims under the nut to correct for the bad headstock repair. Thankfully it came apart easily and after scraping away old glue and removing inefficient dowels the way forward was clear. After realigning the headstock, a little hide glue and a few well placed hardwood dowels were all that were needed to see this c1950s German upright through another hundred years at least.

This beautiful French violin from 1788 needed a lot of love and attention. After opening her up to fix the crack in the top, the dirt and horrible varnish was carefully removed and a light french polish was applied to bring the finish back to its former glory. Once set up she sang magnificently. One of the finest toned violins to leave the shop. She has now made her way to Canada and will no doubt give joy to many more generations of violinists. Jobs like this make me very happy
