⚠️Water Outage in your area? Avoid this expensive mistake homeowners make!

When the water is off, your geyser can run empty. If the power stays on, the heating element can overheat and burn out, causing damage to the thermostat and other components. In some cases, it can even shorten the lifespan of the entire geyser.

A few minutes of precaution can save you thousands in repairs or replacement.

Here's what to do during a water outage:

✅ Switch off your geyser at the DB board or isolator switch.
✅ Keep hot water taps closed while the water is off.
✅ Once water is restored, open a hot water tap to release trapped air.
✅ Only switch your geyser back on once it has completely refilled with water.

There's water running across the floor, cupboards swelling, and panic setting in.

The first thing to do is always stop the water.
Here's exactly how. PS - Step 5 is crucial!

Step 1 ------
Stay calm, act fast!
Don't waste time looking for tools. The stopcock turns by hand. Head straight for it.

Step 2 ------
Find your main stopcock
Usually near the front of the house, under the kitchen sink, outside near the boundary wall, or in a utility box at street level.

Step 3 ------
Turn it clockwise
"Righty tighty, lefty loosey." Turn firmly clockwise until it stops. The water supply to your whole home is now off.

Step 4 ------
Open a cold tap
Open any cold tap to drain the pressure still sitting in your pipes. This reduces further flooding.

Step 5 -----
Switch off your geyser
Go to your DB board and flip the geyser switch off. Never let a geyser run without water supply, it can burn out the element!

Step 6 ------
