It's obviously a huge water leak?😜
Here's the thing. What would your response , as an average SA homeowner, to a R150 000+ water bill be? Fairly robust I guess?
Water is expensive nowadays. The average household uses about 30 kiloliters/month. A house. Not a townhouse or flat.
So how is this possible? Turns out it's not that hard. It hides behind the concept of municipal interim charges. Our current system can go back 2 YEARS! So a leak that started in 2024 will only be spotted now when they get off their bottoms and read your meter.
If you haven't been paying attention to your actual water consumption you are likely to get a bill for the difference. The current record (I've seen it) is well over R150 000! They need their cash now thanks. If you don't pay they could cut your electricity 🙄
The purpose of this post is to frighten you to pay attention. There may well be practical and legal grounds to contest this but the bottom line is that it's going to cost you heaps of cash.
I've been plumbing forever, but by the time I get involved it's hopelessly too late. I can only do damage control.
PAY ATTENTION OR IT WILL BITE YOU. Track your water meter every month! Older properties will leak at some point. The municipality is not your friend. Interim readings are suicidal!
