Pooling of Water

Pooling of water against the wall can create a few damp problems. Lateral damp can form from water pushing up the wall on the interior side of the wall. Always try to ensure that pavement allows water to flow away from the home and into an area which allows the water to sink away.

Beware Cracks

Cracks in the exterior walls easily allows water that flows down the wall to enter behind the paint and create a big balloon of water appearing on the walls plaster. This often creates lateral damp to show on the interior walls plaster. So even hair line cracks can do damage if left un attended for a long enough period.

Window Frames & Door Frames

One of the best ways to repair window seals that allow penetrating damp to show on the interior walls plaster is the pap and lap method.

Scrape away damaged seal against the reveal and fill all holes with a strong plaster mix. Then apply a layer of acrylic sealer and embed a membrane into the sealer then apply another 2 x coats of sealer. This will last much longer than the normal silicone seal.

When the damp proof course (black / green plastic barrier) beneath the concrete floor slab is below soil level on the exterior side bridging will occur.

Black Mould

Condensation is the biggest cause of black mould. Condensation found inside bedroom window in the morning create black mould on the window sill interior.
