4-Week campaign close
Policies create frameworks. Systems create controls. But awareness determines whether people recognise when those controls need to be used.
Over the past four weeks we've explored financial crime from four perspectives:
Understand the risk.
Know what money laundering and financial crime can look like.
Recognise the signals.
Notice unusual behaviour, inconsistencies and activity that doesn't make reasonable sense.
Use the controls.
Apply due diligence, monitoring, recordkeeping and escalation processes properly.
Take action.
Raise legitimate concerns so they can be assessed by the right people.
There is an important thread connecting all four:
Awareness.
The strongest policy in the world cannot respond to a warning sign that nobody notices.
And the best reporting process cannot help if employees are too uncertain to use it.
Financial crime prevention therefore isn't only a compliance responsibility.
It is an organisational capability.
If this series has raised questions about whether your AML awareness, controls or employee training work as effectively in practice as they do on paper, Athrú Solutions would welcome the conversation.
