I've noticed several newer FB groups for the lovers, growers, and/or traders of irises.
For those looking to trade or sell, you should know that the main rhizome that just bloomed is called the 'mother'. It only blooms that one year, but will produce 'babies' along the rhizome and they branch out producing more irises.
I read a complaint from a buyer a while back after receiving an old mother plant in a trade. She was disappoined in getting a 'spent' rhizome in the swap.
I feel certain this wasn't someone scamming on a swap. More likely a case of being unaware.
Be one that knows, and everyone is happy. 😉

As we get deeper into the buying season for irises, I know it's a hard choice when we have to narrow down our picks.
To save disappointment later on, it's a good rule to check on other sites to see what the iris looks like there.
As Keith Keppel pointed out to me, the photographer wants to catch the plant in its best light and the colors can vary greatly from one photograph to another.
The most extreme example of color tweaking is the turquoise iris that shows up for sale every year. The National Gardening Association is a good place to search for an iris and see a variety of pictures and what it looks like growing in home gardens and photographed by amature photographers. 👍
