Did you know that many public libraries hold monthly book sales? πŸ‘€

This is a way they help not only fund our local libraries, reduce stock for new items, but also support their local community by selling affordable books!

My Public Library had a $5 bag sale for Children's and Teen's books today. I found so many amazing educational books for our homeschool room. πŸŽ’πŸ“š

We got 125 books and 6 workbooks for only $35. 😍 Those ladies were so sweet too and working hard to support the public library!

Our public libraries do so much good for our communities. Check out your local public library to see what events they are hosting and any upcoming book sales! It all goes back to supporting the library. πŸ™πŸ»

πŸ“– Children's Book Review πŸ“–

"The Invisible Leash" by Patrice Karst is a beautifully illustrated children's book about the loss of a pet. It follows the story of a young boy named Zack who recently lost his dog Jojo. He feels deep sadness and even anger over the loss.

Over the course of the book it follows Zack and his friend Emily as she explains about the Invisible Leash. She also lost a pet, her cat Rexie, and explained how we are all connected through an Invisible Leash to the pets we lost. That when you feel that "tug" of love it's the leash connecting you to your pet.

This book is perfect for children who have lost a pet to help walk them through their own grief. It speaks on loss, sadness, and the love that binds us together even in the beyond. ✨️

Play-based learning is led with the belief that children are naturally curious and learn best through hands on activities and exploration. Rather than spending hours sitting at a desk being up, moving, and using their hands as well as their minds fosters a healthy learning environment. πŸ’

Fun Play-based Ideas:
πŸ› Market Square - Create a "market" where children take turns tending a stall and sell items. Use fake money to help foster counting, managing money, and cooperation when restocking the booth.
πŸ“– Storytelling Station - Read a book and then "act out" the scenes in the book where they can retell it through play or even create their own versions.
🎭 Kindness Theater - Create scenes where children act out scenarios about resolving conflicts, sharing, acts of kindness, etc.
πŸ”  Word Hunt - Using the letters of the alphabet find one item that starts with each letter in the home.

What is your favorite play-based activities for your homeschool kids?

We printed off over 250 printables today for this year's homeschool lessons! Our first week's tote is ready to go with each grade seperated into binders and our weekly themes at the end.

While we will have plenty of individual work we also wanted to do a weekly "focus" theme that we can teach the girls together. The first week of August our weekly focus will be on Ocean Animals and the Declaration of Independence. πŸŒŠπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

We are doing a mix of online work with plenty of hands on activities. πŸ–πŸŽ¨

We cleaned up our homeschool room chalkboard today to start with a clean slate for this upcoming school year! πŸ‘©β€πŸ«

This week we will be adding on some border designs. Stay tuned to see how it looks!

We used a Vinegar & Water solution to clean the chalkboard. The vinegar works great to cut through the chalk, but be careful not to use too strong a solution so it doesn't take off the finish!

Vinegar Solution:
➑️ 1 gallon of warm water
➑️ 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar

A little Homeschool Weekly Schedule planning is underway! We are doing a blend of online and hands on learning. πŸ’»πŸ–

August Week One focuses on Ocean Animals, Declaration of Independence, & the Voting Rights Act. We have children in three separate grades so they will have individual learning and lessons together. πŸ³πŸ“

Every Wednesday we will have a historical Documentary to watch and then on Thursdays we will have a lesson planned about it. The Declaration of Independence was primarily signed on August 2, 1776 and the Voting Rights Act was signed on August 6, 1965 which is why we chose these two historical moments to focus our first week on.

We chose not to do a "timed" weekly schedule with set times for each lesson to be more fluid with our individual learners. This way there is no feelings of being rushed through each lesson and we can take our time! It gives us a better opportunity to work around what each day needs.

As a society we have all become too rushed and it leads to excess stress and burnout at even a young age. This is why we are grateful to be able to slow down and homeschool our children!πŸ™πŸ»
