We get asked about Lyme disease and symptoms a lot. Our approach is to be compassionate but not to share our opinions on the medical side of things. We know ticks and we leave the medical side up to the Lyme literate doctors.

This is an excellent resource if you think you were bit. It's called the Lyme Disease Symptoms Assessment Report from LymeDisease.org.

This Lyme disease symptoms checklist helps you document exposure to Lyme disease and common symptoms for your physician.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. And Tick Tackler doesn't have to tell you what a bad tick year it has been thus far.

Lyme Disease Awareness Month is a time to get people’s attention. It's a moment each year when we metaphorically shake folks by the shoulders and say,

TICK TRUTH: a blacklegged tick bite IS NOT the same as a Lyme disease bullseye rash. Lyme rashes are 5 cm or greater in diameter. Lyme rashes typically don’t appear until 5 days to 2 weeks after an infected tick bite—so if the tick is still attached and you see a rash, it’s not a sign of Lyme. All TICK BITES, especially after the first bite, often cause an immediate (1-3 days) hypersensitivity (allergic) response in the skin, usually the size of a dime-quarter. It’s worth watching since in much of the northeast, mid-Atlantic, and upper mid-west, 1 in 2 (50%) of adult female blacklegged ticks are carrying the Lyme germ. If this rash were to expand to >5 cm, then go to your PHP right away.

Heads up everyone! We are experiencing a high number of inquiries about our residential tick control services because of the high amount of tick activity. You know it’s bad when the tick testing company, TickCheck actually posts it on their site about high volume of ticks to test this early in the season . I have used this company many times before they have a quick turnaround of less than 70 hours. This truly helps with early detection of Lyme and other diseases. They are offering 15% off. Use the code SPRING26

All they need is for the big blood testing facilities to purchase the kits. And hopefully the insurance companies jump on board with approvals.

Fingers crossed for better testing for Lyme, Babesia and Bartonella. FDA approved tests that are more accurate. Hoping that the testing facilities jump on board and use the IGeneX idart kits. This approved method hopefully will provide more accurate testing.

Another important tidbit that supports this message… opossums eat ticks! They’re backyard friends and green flags of a healthy and well balanced ecosystem. Further, they cannot carry rabies because their body temperature is too low. They can look a little scary, but smile when you see them! They’re good little fellas that help keep the tick population down 🌱

Just a reminder!! Possum, raccoons and skunks do not hibernate and will look for a place to warm up. Please let them warm if they are near your house. Please leave them scraps or better yet, they love grapes, bananas, hot dogs, dog food and cat food. And keep water containers down low for them. If we help them through the winter they will thank us by eating our ticks and other annoying bugs and critters.

Be kind. 🐾

Just what does Jen do, when the ticks are less active in the winter???? Well, she catches up on long overdue paperwork and she wraps! Yup. Her first job at 16 was a gift wrapper at Epstein's Department Store at the Somerville Circle. From there she moved on to fitting room attendant!

If you intentionally planted pollinator plants in the last few years, thank you for your contribution. You played a part in this. 🥹🧡🖤🤍🦋
