-With the goal of creating a green building that conserves resources and minimizes carbon emissions, AHA ARCHITECTS approached the design by responding to the existing natural conditions of the mountainous landscape of Duc Trong, Lam D**g — its topography, sunlight, wind, water, and surrounding environment.
-Rather than significantly altering the site, the building is designed to sit lightly on the natural terrain, prioritizing prefabricated structures, low-emission materials, renewable energy, and water recycling to minimize environmental impact throughout both construction and operation.
-The architectural language is shaped by simple and honest elements: a prefabricated steel structure, an extended sloping roof, corrugated metal cladding, and the warmth of natural timber. The exposed structure becomes an integral part of the architecture, creating an expression that is both raw and robust while remaining in harmony with the surrounding mountain landscape.
-The diamond footing system, combined with the lightweight steel structure, minimizes excavation and the use of concrete, reducing disturbance to the site's natural topography.
-The solar roof is designed as a second roof layer, generating electricity for the building while simultaneously providing shade and creating a naturally ventilated buffer zone that helps reduce heat gain within the interior.
-The building envelope, composed of natural timber – thermal insulation – metal cladding, is designed for durability and thermal efficiency, helping reduce operational energy demand.
-Rainwater and treated domestic wastewater are collected and reused for landscape irrigation, creating an on-site water cycle and reducing the demand for fresh water.
-From the way the building touches the ground and its choice of materials to its use of renewable energy and water recycling, every design decision contributes to reducing the building’s environmental footprint.
