Where do you go to de-stress and find peace?
You know, that special place that relaxes you, refreshes your mind, body, and spirit, and makes your heart sing. For some, it’s a room in their home; for others, it’s a quiet place in a park or nature area.
For me, my home, and specifically the cozy and tucked away sun room, is my peaceful place. Seated on a comfy couch, I can gaze out the many windows that let in ample sun and a refreshing breeze. I go there when I need to unwind, read, write, or just to think. It’s a place where I can listen to the birds sing and watch my garden grow.
A peaceful place is somewhere you can go to slow down, reflect, engage in enjoyable activities. You can be alone or with others who you find relaxing to be around. A place that doesn’t demand anything of you or expect you to be someone you’re not – where you can just be. In your own space, you can be noisy or quiet, or work on activities and interests that you are passionate about, read, or otherwise escape life’s daily stresses and routines. Other options besides a special room in the home include the bathtub, backyard or community garden, and a nearby park.
It’s important to have a place to retreat, a place that brings you a sense of calm and a respite from life’s hectic pace at least once a week, if not daily. Having a designated retreat space that’s easy to access isn’t only nice, but necessary for many of us, particularly those of us who gain and recharge our energy from being alone. If you live with other people, it’s also important for each of you to have your own space to relax and restore your energy. A peaceful physical place supports a peaceful mind.
