A concrete floor may look solid—but if it leaves fine concrete dust on shoes, forklift tyres, or equipment, it could be suffering from Concrete Dusting.

Dusting occurs when the top surface of the concrete lacks sufficient strength and abrasion resistance, causing it to gradually wear into fine particles under normal traffic.

When a warehouse floor starts to deteriorate, the first visible damage almost always appears at joints. This is no coincidence.

🔬 PRECISION FLOOR SCIENCE | Episode 01: What Is Concrete Curling?

Have you ever driven a forklift across a warehouse floor and noticed a bump at a construction joint—even though the floor looked perfectly fine?
One possible reason is Concrete Curling.

🔍 What is Concrete Curling?
Concrete curling is the upward warping of a concrete slab caused primarily by differential moisture loss, temperature gradients, or shrinkage through the slab thickness.

In most industrial floors, the top surface is exposed to air and tends to dry and shrink faster than the bottom surface, which retains moisture longer.

As a result, the slab edges or corners may lift slightly, creating a small gap beneath the slab.

While this movement is often measured in only a few millimetres, it can significantly affect floor performance over time.

⚙️ Why does curling matter?
When forklifts, VNA trucks, or AGVs/AMRs repeatedly travel across curled slab edges, the unlevel joints and unsupported concrete edge may deflect under wheel loads.
