VAFS–IUFRO ACACIA CONFERENCE 2026 – HỘI THẢO QUỐC TẾ VỀ CÂY KEO TẠI VIỆT NAM

Từ 5–8 tháng 10 năm 2026, tại Hà Nội, Viện Khoa học Lâm nghiệp Việt Nam (VAFS) phối hợp với IUFRO Working Party 2.08.07 "Di truyền và lâm sinh của cây Keo" tổ chức hội thảo VAFS–IUFRO Acacia Conference 2026 với chủ đề: “Sustaining Acacia Plantations in a Dynamic Changing World” (Phát triển bền vững rừng trồng keo trong một thế giới biến đổi năng động)

Cây keo (Acacia) đang giữ vai trò đặc biệt quan trọng trong ngành lâm nghiệp nhiệt đới, đặc biệt tại Việt Nam và khu vực Đông Nam Á. Hội thảo sẽ quy tụ các nhà khoa học, chuyên gia, nhà quản lý, doanh nghiệp và các bên liên quan để chia sẻ những nghiên cứu mới, kinh nghiệm thực tiễn và thúc đẩy hợp tác quốc tế về phát triển rừng trồng keo.

Các chủ đề chính bao gồm:
- Chọn giống và công nghệ sinh học
- Lâm sinh và quản lý rừng bền vững
- Công nghiệp rừng, chuỗi giá trị và các cơ hội thị trường

Đặc biệt, chương trình còn có chuyến tham quan hiện trường tại Ba Vì (Hà Nội) và Tuyên Quang và diễn đàn "Kết nối nghiên cứu - công nghiệp và đổi mới sáng tạo trong chuỗi giá trị bền vững cây keo" (Bridging Research, Industry and Innovation in Sustainable Acacia Value Chains), tạo cơ hội kết nối trực tiếp giữa nghiên cứu, sản xuất và doanh nghiệp.

🎤 We are honored to introduce Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phi Hong Hai
President, Vietnam Academy of Forest Science (VAFS), Vietnam 🇻🇳

🌳 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phi Hong Hai is a distinguished forestry scientist and the President of the Vietnam Academy of Forest Science (VAFS), with extensive expertise in forest genetics, tree breeding, and forest genetic resource conservation. He also serves as a visiting lecturer at the Vietnam National University of Forestry and Da Lat University, contributing to the education and training of future forestry professionals.

🎓 He obtained his Master's degree from Wageningen University (2003) and earned his PhD from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (2009). Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to advancing research on tree improvement, with a focus on enhancing the productivity, adaptability, and genetic resources of economically important forest tree species.

🌱 As a leading researcher in Vietnam, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hai has made remarkable contributions to forest tree breeding and germplasm development. He is the author and co-author of 41 officially recognized elite germplasm varieties, including Acacia auriculiformis, Acacia mangium, Acacia crassicarpa, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, and UP and UU hybrid clones. His work has played a significant role in improving plantation productivity and promoting sustainable forestry development in Vietnam.

Borneo Forestry Cooperative R&D Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia 🇲🇾

🌳 Dr. Yani Japarudin is an accomplished forestry professional with over 25 years of experience in industrial tropical plantation forestry. Her expertise spans tree improvement, silviculture, wood utilization, and the commercialization of forestry R&D innovations, bridging scientific research with practical solutions for sustainable plantation management.

🔬 Currently serving as Industry Extension Services Manager at Borneo Forestry Cooperative (BFC) R&D Sdn. Bhd., Dr. Yani leads research translation, technical capacity building, and industry engagement, supporting innovation and sustainable development across the forestry sector.

🎓 As a Certified Accredited Trainer under the HRD Corporation Registered Training Programme, she has delivered numerous professional training programs for forestry practitioners, plantation managers, and technical specialists throughout Malaysia.

🌏 Dr. Yani is also widely recognized for her leadership in Southeast Asia, fostering collaboration among researchers, industry partners, and policymakers. She currently serves as Deputy Coordinator of the IUFRO Working Party 2.08.07 – Genetics and Silviculture of Acacias, contributing to international research and knowledge exchange in tropical plantation forestry.

🌟 Meet Our Invited Speaker | Dr. Tetra Yanuariadi 🌟

🎤 Dr. Tetra Yanuariadi is the ITTO Projects Manager for Trade and Industry (since 2008), where he focuses on promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) in the tropics while enhancing and diversifying trade in tropical timber products sourced from legally and sustainably managed forests.

🌳 His work contributes to strengthening financial and policy support for SFM implementation, improving market access and regulatory frameworks for forest products, and advancing balanced approaches to sustainable production and consumption in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030).

🏢 Prior to joining ITTO, he served in several key positions, including Head of the Forestry Division and Forestry Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Head of the Evaluation Division at the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry and Environment, and Forest Program Coordinator at WWF Indonesia.

🎓 Dr. Tetra holds a degree in Forestry from Mulawarman University, Indonesia (1985), a Master of Forest Science from ITC–Twente University, the Netherlands (1991), and a PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences from Wageningen University, the Netherlands (1999).

🌍 With extensive experience in forestry policy, international trade, and sustainable forest governance, Dr. Tetra brings valuable insights into the global efforts toward sustainable and inclusive forest-based development.

🌟 Meet Our Invited Speaker: Professor Yousry A. El-Kassaby 🌟
🎤 We are honored to introduce Professor Yousry A. El-Kassaby, one of the world's leading experts in forest genetics, genomics, and tree improvement.
🌲 Professor El-Kassaby is currently a Professor of Applied Forest Genetics and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Forestry, University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada 🇨🇦. With a distinguished career spanning more than five decades, he has made remarkable contributions to quantitative genetics, forest genomics, tree breeding, and sustainable forest management.
🏢 Prior to joining UBC, he held senior leadership positions in Canada's forest industry, serving as Director of Genetics and Product Development at CellFor Inc. and Director of Applied Forest Research at Pacific Forest Products Ltd.
📚 Professor El-Kassaby has secured numerous competitive research grants and has authored or co-authored more than 400 scientific publications, book chapters, and invited papers, making him one of the most influential scholars in modern forest genetics.
🌍 He has also played a key leadership role within IUFRO, serving on the Extended Board and coordinating Division 2 (Physiology and Genetics), helping shape international collaboration in forest science.
🏆 His outstanding achievements have been recognized through prestigious honors, including:
