Bathroom receptacle locations are designed to help reduce the risk of electric shock and improve safety.

Here are a few important requirements from the 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC®):

✅ A receptacle is required within 3 feet of the outside edge of each bathroom basin. It may be installed on the wall or on the side or face of the vanity cabinet, provided it is not more than 12 inches below the countertop or basin.

🚫 Receptacle outlets are not permitted within the space extending 3 feet horizontally and 8 feet vertically from the top of a bathtub rim or shower threshold.

💡 If the bathroom is too small to meet the 3-foot clearance, the receptacle should be installed on the farthest wall opposite the tub or shower where permitted by the Code.

💡 Listed pop-up receptacles are permitted in bathroom countertops when installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

⚡ Bathroom receptacles must also have GFCI protection for personnel safety.
