Here’s a perfect example of why choosing a qualified HVAC contractor is so important.
In these photos, another company pulled the low-side king valve inside the unit. Not only is this improper installation practice, but it also prevents proper access to the suction side for future service and diagnostics.
While we cannot say exactly what occurred during the previous repair, this type of workmanship raises concerns. Based on what we found, we suspect the system may not have been properly pressure tested and evacuated prior to startup, which can allow moisture, non-condensables, and other contaminants to enter the refrigeration circuit.
When contaminants enter the system, they can damage critical components and cause restrictions that affect refrigerant flow and overall system performance.
As a result, the homeowner was faced with additional repairs, including:
✔️ Replacing the compressor (again)
✔️ Installing a new liquid line dryer
✔️ Replacing the TXV
✔️ Cleaning and protecting the refrigeration system to ensure proper refrigerant metering and operation
The lesson is simple: quality workmanship matters. Proper installation procedures, pressure testing, evacuation, and startup procedures help protect your investment and prevent costly repairs down the road.
