Most homeowners turn the AC back on the second the storm passes and don't think twice about it.

Here's what we've seen after bad storms in Pasco County — surge-fried capacitors, fan blades cracked from debris impact, condensers sitting in standing water for hours. None of it is obvious from the outside, and all of it gets worse if you run the system before checking.

We've heard every sound an AC can make and what each one means.

🔩 Rattling = loose component
💥 Banging = something came loose internally
😬 Squealing = belt or motor bearing
🌬️ Hissing = possible refrigerant leak

Three things to check on your AC right now — takes about 5 minutes and can prevent the breakdown you really don't want to deal with in July:

✅ Filter — if it's grey, clogged, or you can't remember the last time you changed it, do it today. Every month.
✅ Thermostat — 76–78°F is the sweet spot in Florida. Every degree below that costs 6–8% more on your bill.
✅ Outdoor unit — clear at least 2 feet of space on all sides. Overgrowth kills airflow fast.

Here's something a lot of Florida homeowners don't realize.

Your AC is doing two jobs at once, cooling the air AND pulling moisture out of it. In Pasco County, where humidity runs high most of the year, that second job takes real energy and real wear on the system.
