Another custom project wrapped up by Cornerstone Millworks LTD!

This custom built-in was designed and built by cornerstone to maximize an otherwise unused space while adding plenty of storage and a clean, finished look. The project features custom cabinetry, shaker-style doors, a stained solid-wood bench top, concealed storage, open cubbies, and black hardware.

It’s always rewarding seeing a project go from raw materials in the shop to the finished installation in the customer’s home.

This one was a team effort with Wingertsahn Custom Builds & Finishes and Prime Cabinet Painting - Pittsburgh. We appreciate the partnership and another great project completed!

A workspace built for something new!

I recently turned a simple 4’ × 8’ basement closet into a dedicated workspace for Layer Works, a new small business my family and I have started focused on 3D-printed products.

For the space, I built a custom base cabinet with storage, oak work surface, floating oak shelving and integrated LED lighting — all designed around fitting a surprising amount of function into a very small footprint.

Layer Works actually started as something fun to do with my kids and a way to get them involved in creating, making and learning a little about business. It has quickly grown from there, and we’re now producing a variety of 3D-printed products, including articulated toys, keychains, custom designs and more.

It was pretty satisfying having Cornerstone Millworks Ltd. build the home for Layer Works.

Two businesses, two very different types of making — but both built around the same idea: create something well-made from scratch.

I’m excited to see where Layer Works goes from here!
