How often do you get to see the behind the scenes, look at prototype tools, as a tradesman? Hardly ever! 💯

This is why I’m grateful with iQ Power Tools for letting me visit their HQ, test out some of the new models they are working on, and getting my input from someone that is active in the field every day!

This was a quick walkthrough because the builder was on a time crunch.

But even in a short window, there’s a lot that has to get caught.

Layout.
Material flow.
Tile direction.
Where finishes stop and start.
How one detail is going to meet the next.

That’s the value of walking the project early.

Even when it’s quick, it gives us the chance to spot things, ask the right questions, and make sure the vision is clear before anything gets locked in.

On a custom home, those little conversations save big mistakes later.

That’s why these walkthroughs matter.

On a multi-million dollar custom build, the small details are the big details.

The finish work.

That’s where people’s eyes go.

This is one of those moments that tells you a lot about the contractor you hired.

You can already see the discrepancy in the grout joints.

And no, that’s not something a good contractor just shrugs off and blames on the material.

That’s the red flag.

Because yes, this is a natural stone mosaic that comes mounted on sheets, and yes, sometimes material like this slips through quality control at the manufacturer.

But that still doesn’t excuse lazy installation.

A great contractor is supposed to dry set the material, inspect it, catch those inconsistencies early, and make the adjustments needed to make sure the finished result still looks clean.

That’s why I always say:

you cannot cheap out on labor.

Good labor can work with imperfect material and still make it look right.
Bad labor will blame the material and leave you stuck with the result.
