With summer winding down, it's a great time to walk through your home and catch small things before they become big (and expensive) problems this fall and winter.
Here's where to focus:
Caulking around tubs, showers, and sinks - This is the one that catches people off guard. Cracked or missing caulk lets moisture creep behind walls silently, and by the time you notice, the damage is already done. A quick re-caulk takes 20 minutes and spares a costly repair.
Cabinet hinges and drawer slides - Humidity from the summer months causes wood to expand and contract. If your cabinets are sticking, sagging, or not closing right, now's the time to adjust before it gets worse.
Grout in your bathroom and kitchen - Cracked or missing grout is more than an eyesore; it's an open door for moisture. Run your finger along the lines. If anything feels soft, crumbly, or hollow, it needs attention.
Bathroom ventilation fans - Flip yours on and hold a piece of tissue near it. If it barely moves, your fan isn't doing its job, and poor ventilation leads to moisture damage, peeling paint, and damaged drywall over time.
Small fixes now can save a big headache later!
