Our honest recommendation for crawlspace encapsulation?

Inspect first. Treat if needed. Encapsulate correctly. Keep it accessible.
Crawlspace encapsulation can be a smart investment when a home has ongoing moisture, musty odors, wet soil, wood moisture, or humidity concerns. But if termite activity is present — or if the crawlspace has never been inspected — sealing everything too soon can create bigger problems later.

Before investing in encapsulation, homeowners should check for:
✔ Termite activity
✔ Mud tubes or old termite evidence
✔ Moisture and drainage problems
✔ Wood-to-soil contact
✔ Plumbing leaks
✔ Cellulose debris
✔ Areas that need to remain visible for future inspections

Whether you live in Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville, Louisburg, Garner, Durham, or surrounding communities, your crawlspace plays a major role in protecting your home.

Read our new blog to learn when encapsulation makes sense — and when termite treatment or moisture correction should come first.

A cleaner, drier crawlspace is a good thing — but encapsulation does not make a home termite-proof.

Subterranean termites live in the soil and can enter through tiny cracks, foundation gaps, piers, plumbing areas, and hidden access points. Even homes with moisture control still need to be inspected and protected.

Before encapsulating, homeowners should ask:
✔ Has the crawlspace been inspected for termites?
✔ Is there active termite activity or old evidence?
✔ Will foundation walls remain visible for inspections?
✔ Is there a current termite warranty?
✔ Could drainage work disturb a previous termite treatment?
This is especially important for crawlspace homes throughout Raleigh, Youngsville, Wake Forest, Louisburg, Garner, Durham, and nearby areas.

The NCDA&CS has confirmed the first established presence of the invasive yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina) in the state, in Matthews.

Beekeepers are asked to watch for hornets around hives exhibiting “hawking-like behavior.” This behavior is a distinctive characteristic to the yellow-legged hornet as they prey on bees. Their hives are another distinctive feature as they can grow much larger than other hornets nests and have a reddish, muddy color to them compared to gray colored nests of bald-faced hornets for example. Our technicians see some pretty wild things in the field! 😳

Plot twist: this cicada killer wasp is not stopping for lunch—she is meal-prepping for the kids. Female cicada killers paralyze cicadas and carry them underground as food for their young.

Scary-looking? Absolutely. A big problem? Usually not.

Nature is wild!

🐜Have ants suddenly appeared in your kitchen, bathroom or around a window after heavy rain?

Rain can disturb outdoor nesting areas and cause ants to search for dry shelter, food and moisture inside nearby structures. Ant activity may also increase around plumbing lines, sinks, windows, doors and foundation gaps.
Spraying the ants you see may provide temporary relief, but it may not reach the colony. In some cases, spraying over an active bait or trail can make professional control more difficult.

Tech Tip: Avoid wiping away active ant trails immediately before your appointment. The trail may help your technician determine where the ants are entering and traveling.

Seeing recurring ant activity in Youngsville, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Raleigh or nearby communities? Contact Advance Pest Control for professional ant control.
