Doing multiple loads of laundry back-to-back or using large amounts of water in a short period of time can stress your system and drainfield. Heavy rain can make the problem even worse by oversaturating the ground and limiting how well your drainfield can absorb water.

After a pump-out, it’s completely normal for your tank to return to its normal liquid level within 3–4 days of regular use.

💧 The average person uses 80–100 gallons of water per day, so that adds up quickly!
A properly functioning tank will sit about 3–4” below the inlet line—that’s full, but not overflowing.

Before you start digging and planting, make sure you’re planting smart around your septic system and drainfield.

DO:
- Plant grass or shallow-rooted plants over your drainfield
- Keep the area well covered with vegetation to help prevent erosion
- Stick to lightweight, surface-level planting

DON’T:
- Plant trees or shrubs with deep roots near your system 🌳
- Dig or disturb soil over the drainfield area
- Put heavy landscaping or garden beds over septic components

Root intrusion and soil disturbance can cause costly damage—what you plant now matters for the health of your system later.
