Look at her glow! 😍

Working in the garden yesterday and a large seductive flower bud got knocked off my ‘Aphrodite’ Hosta. I was moving a pile of branches and one must have clipped the clump.

I guess I could have just kept going. Instead I apologized and took the bud to one of my grandmother’s tiny vases.

The fragrance as she opens this morning is exquisite.

So tropical and exotic looking! I love adding Lion’s Ear (aka Lion’s Tail -Leonotis) into the garden.
Love this orange color!! 🧡 And the hummingbirds and butterflies love the nectar filled flowers.

Full sun. Deer resistant. Annual.

Keep your bird baths clean!!

Stagnant water provide perfect spots for mosquito breeding, dump sitting water every 3-5 days.

Birds are not only bathing in it, they are also drinking it.

After this group of sparrows finished their spa treatment, a catbird, a cardinal and two bluejays followed. I sat on my deck delighted, quietly enjoying nature.

Super cool flowers and wow-wee foliage, every plant showing a different combination of green and chocolate-brown-maroon.

A tropical, most gardeners lift and store the rhizomes for winter. Sometimes they make it through winter, and that’s certainly not guaranteed.

Best in lots of sun and moist compost rich soils.

Eeewww and sooo fascinating.

The tomato hornworm can be a real problem in our vegetable gardens. And! Mother Nature in her infinite wisdom also provides natural help.

Enter the Braconid Wasp. In it flies, spotting the perfect campground to raise its offspring. Seeing the juicy green caterpillar, the wasp circles then lands.

“Perfect”, she thinks, as she begins her injections. Not only her eggs, also a virus to keep the hornworm from defending itself.

The white rice-like clingers are cocoons!

If you see this in your vegetable garden, loaded with white hitchhikers, leave it. The tomato hornworm can do no more damage as it becomes paralyzed and eaten alive. As the wasps hatch, they become your natural predator for any other hornworms who discover your garden.

They may be difficult for us to spot as they blend right in. But the wasp has special talents and is a treasure in the organic vegetable garden.

This pretty Dahlia has survived in the garden for four winters now! Always surprised to see it return. 😍
