Here's something you might not expect an architect to care about: your energy bill! A lot more goes into designing a building than most people realize. High-performance design means planning from day one for how much energy and water a building will use, how much it will cost to run, and how comfortable it will feel for the people inside.

It's all part of our "What Do Architects Actually Do?" series. Swipe through to see why it matters!

Here's a fun one! Kutztown University of Pennsylvania had a big granite slab just sitting in storage, so we gave it a new job. Now it's the tabletop of their outdoor classroom, a pretty stately spot for class on a nice fall day. Scott Graham designed the foundation to hold it up (because that thing is HEAVY!).

Sometimes reuse is as simple as seeing potential in what you already have. Scroll through and take a look!

Come along with Jim Sarro for a sneak peek inside Olivet Boys & Girls Club! We've been renovating two of their locations, updating everything from paint to appliances, and it's so rewarding to watch it all come together. We're almost there, and we can't wait for the kids to see it!

Say hello to Jazmine Arzuaga! Jazmine grew up right here in Berks County, graduated from Wilson High School, and went on to earn her architecture degree at Penn College. We're so glad she brought that talent back home.

"I was drawn to MGA because of the diverse range of projects, especially public and educational spaces, which I’ve always been passionate about. Over the past year, I’ve learned so much from my coworkers and supervisors, who foster a fun, positive, and supportive work environment that motivates me to continue improving."

On any given day, you can find her building 3D models, putting together construction documents, and pitching in wherever our project managers need her. Thanks for all you do, Jazmine!

If you've ever crossed the bridge into Reading, you've seen Reading Area Community College (RACC) standing right at Second and Penn. It's an important part of our city and it opens doors for so many people who live here.

We've been lucky to work with Reading Area Community College on a variety of projects over the years. There have been public facility renovations, Welcome Center updates, new campus signage, and even a 25-station eSports Center (pretty cool, we know!). We've picked up several awards together along the way, too!

Thank you, RACC, for trusting us to help move your mission forward. We're proud to be part of your story!

Did you know? Architecture licenses work a lot like a driver's license from state to state. An architect can't legally stamp drawings or oversee construction in a state where they're not licensed to practice.

We started right here in Berks County, but we've grown a lot since then. Today, our team holds licenses in 11 states plus Washington, D.C., which means when a client's project crosses state lines, we can handle it all in-house. đź’Ş

Before we dive into our new educational series on what architects actually do, we figured we'd start with the people who'd know best - our own team. Here's what they had to say!

There's just something about a historic building. All that history and all the stories that live in the empty rooms and corridors… We've got a real soft spot for that at MG Architects!

So when Centre County came to us about turning a former senior care facility into a mix of administrative offices and shared-use space, we jumped at the chance.

After a full renovation inside and out, the 118,000-square-foot building now serves Centre County's human services and elections agencies, plus a few other groups who call it home.

Scroll through and see how it turned out!

Did you know MG Architects is basically one big teaching office? And we take a lot of pride in that!

Scott Graham (our President and Principal) also serves as our official NCARB mentor, which means he helps guide team members through the process of becoming a licensed architect. He's joined by fellow principals Robert Conklin and James Sarro, so nobody here is left to figure things out solo.

Honestly, the learning never really stops, even for the three of them. We're always picking up something new from each other while working through a tricky project or a challenge nobody's run into before.

After 106 years in business, we've collected a lot of hard-earned knowledge around here, and we think the best thing to do with it is pass it along. Good for our team, good for our clients too.

Big things are happening over at Olivet Boys and Girls Club of Reading & Berks County! We've been hard at work on renovations there, and we can't wait to show you the redesigned spaces built for the 3,000+ participants who walk through those doors every year to learn, play, and just be kids.

Olivet does incredible work for young people in our community, especially the ones who need extra support, and we're honored to have had a hand in it. Reading and Berks County are home for us, so getting to give back like this means a lot.

Thank you to Olivet Boys and Girls Club and Burkey Construction for trusting us with this project. Full reveal coming soon!
