🔥 PRAYING FOR OUR FIRST RESPONDERS 🙏

Today, our thoughts and prayers are with the brave firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency crews, and volunteers battling the wildfires west of DFW.

These men and women are running toward the danger while many of us are safely at home. They’re working long hours in extreme conditions to protect families, homes, businesses, livestock, and communities.

Hope you guys made it safe out of the little pop-up hail storm we had yesterday.

Chances, are you likely getting inundated with roofers knocking on your door!

Let me lovingly encourage you to please do your research before you allow somebody on your roof.

1. Check the Better Business Bureau, google them!
2. There is no license for roofers in the state of Texas.. there’s no regulatory agency for roofing.
3. If a roofer offers to waive your deductible, be very careful! Chances are they’re going to cut corners on your roof!
4. Make sure the roof roofer takes the roof all the way down to the decking and inspect for rotten decking.
5. Make sure the roofer pulls a permit and gives you a copy of the receipt.
6. Make sure the roofer gives you a release a lien document showing they’ve paid all their subcontractors and vendors.
7. Make sure the roofer gives you a copy of the shingle manufacturer warranty and workmanship warranty.
8. Make sure the roofer supplies a project manager on staff that will go into your attic and inspect the vent pipes before and after the roof gets replaced.

Today, Valor Development, LLC Roofing & Construction honors the life and legacy of the one and only Dolly Parton.

Dolly was famous for singing about “Working 9 to 5”, but her impact went far beyond music. She had a special way of making people feel loved, welcomed, and valued.

She treated people with kindness, love, and empathy—without judgment. And honestly, that sounds a lot like our firefighters.

🔥 Firefighters don’t ask who you are, where you came from, what you believe, or what mistakes you’ve made. When you need help, they show up. They treat people with compassion and put others before themselves.

Dolly understood that spirit. She had a well-known love for firefighters and even named one of the rides at Dollywood FireChaser Express—a fitting tribute to the men and women who run toward danger while everyone else is running away. 🚒❤️

From 9 to 5 to FireChaser Express, Dolly spent her life reminding us that kindness, hard work, and helping others never go out of style.

🏠☀️ DO BLISTERING SHINGLES CAUSE ROOF SHINGLES TO LOSE THEIR INTEGRITY?

Yes — they can and this is why you want to have routine yearly roof inspections.

Roof shingle blistering occurs when moisture or air becomes trapped within the shingle and extreme heat causes the shingle surface to form small bubbles or raised areas.

Over time, blistering can contribute to the loss of the shingle’s protective granules. Once those granules begin to come loose, the shingle can become more vulnerable to:

⚠️ UV damage
⚠️ Premature aging
⚠️ Cracking and deterioration
⚠️ Water intrusion
⚠️ Reduced overall shingle performance

And here in DFW, extreme summer temperatures can be especially hard on your roof.

If you notice areas of your roof that look like they have bubbles, raised spots, missing granules, or unusual wear, don’t ignore them.

One of the things we inspect for during a Roof Inspection is for proper ventilation. 💨

With this extreme heat. It’s a big deal!

3 Reasons Why Good Ventilation Is A Big Deal

1. Prevents mold and rot. Recent years have brought building science technologies that are making homes tighter and tighter. All of the moisture that is naturally created inside of our homes by cooking, laundry, houseplants, and bathing that used to migrate toward the drier outdoors through loose windows and doors and other ways is now trapped inside of our homes.

Unless your home has a great v***r barrier behind the walls and ceilings, that moisture then ends up in the attic. If it is not properly vented out of the attic, it condenses on cold surfaces in your attic such as the underside of the roof when nighttime temperatures drop. Condensation in an attic will eventually lead to mold and even rot – which leads to roof leaks. 💦

2. Prevents high home operating and energy costs. 📈 Another chief reason for good attic ventilation is to help reduce your home’s summer heat gain. Your home’s roof is a giant solar collector. Once that heat enters your attic, if it is not directed back outside by good ventilation, it ends up increasing your home’s cooling loads and operating costs. 💰

3. Prevents destructive ice dams. 🧊
Finally, when the weather turns cold, having good attic ventilation helps avoid ice dams on your roof. Those destructive dams are caused most often by heat leaks from the living space into the attic that then melts the snow. That melted snow runs down the roof until it hits the cold overhangs on the roof where it re-freezes, forming an ice dam. Good ventilation in an attic will direct that warm air to the peak of your roof and then outside.

Because we are all firemen. We study this stuff in fire-fighting training. We call the movement of air and hot gases inside a structure a flow path. Understanding how air moves through doors, windows, and hallways helps them control fire growth and protect lives.
