What started as an idea from the students of Red Oak Community School is officially becoming a reality. At the groundbreaking, Cheryl from Red Oak Community School, Tammy with .construction, and Bradley and Ben from Rhythm Architecture share their thoughts on the collaboration behind the project, the design challenges along the way, and what it means to bring an idea driven by students to life.

More than a treehouse, this project is a reminder to these students that their ideas matter, and with patience, teamwork, and creativity, those ideas can become something real for generations to enjoy.

For the last 10 years we have volunteered our services for Red Oak Community School (ROCS) to help them envision opportunities for enhancing their nature-emersion curriculum. Most recently we have partnered with Cooley Construction to bring a modest treehouse to life within the natural play area of the school.

The goal of the treehouse is to leave space for the children to make it their own over time, hopefully using the school color (mud) and making it truly one-of-a-kind.

These photos capture the recent groundbreaking ceremony and the community coming together to celebrate the start of this special project.

In part 2 of our "Questions you can't Google" series, we're talking about how architects know when a small design decision could turn into a much bigger problem later. Experience plays a big role, but also listening closely to what a client is really asking for. Sometimes the most important details aren't mentioned directly, they're hidden in the things people repeat, emphasize, and keep coming back to.

As Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, we're looking back on a little sunshine, time on the water, and a chance for the Rhythm team to simply enjoy the day together. The work matters, but so do the people who make it happen, and behind every project is a team worth celebrating.

In our new series, “Questions You Can’t Google,” we’re diving into the design decisions that don’t always have a simple answer. For Part 1, we’re talking about natural movement and how architects can tell when a floor plan technically works but still feels wrong. Because sometimes a layout can make perfect sense on paper and still feel completely different once you’re actually inside it.

From plans on paper to the finished space, here's a look back at the transformation of C. Field & Roe from early drawings and construction to the completed retail space. Projects like this are a great reminder of how much planning, coordin ation, and detail goes into bringing a design to life.
