Steps to Winterize your Plumbing System
• Close isolation valves for exterior hose bibs then open the hose bib to allow the water in the line to drain. Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses. It is important to leave the hose bib open to allow any remaining water to expand without causing the pipe to break.
• Always keep garage doors closed if water supply lines are in the garage or above.
• Don’t forget to follow winterization steps for other things such as pool houses, irrigation systems, pool equipment, boats etc...
 
If temperatures are forecasted to drop below freezing for longer than a 24 hour period, we recommend following these easy steps:
• Turn a faucet in your home to slightly drip. Moving water (even just a drip) will help prevent pipes from freezing
• Open cabinet doors under your sinks to allow warmer air to surround the pipes
• Place space heaters in areas where pipes are near an exterior wall or unconditioned areas such as garages or attics.
