Talk about an unexpected coworker! While out doing a routine leak check, we ran into this gorgeous Eastern Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix). Talk about a reminder to always look twice before reaching into dark or covered spaces!

Finding a snake on the job is always an exciting moment for us at Beholder Aquatics, but it’s the perfect time to highlight a vital safety rule: If you aren't 100% certain of a snake's identity, always keep your hands back and admire it from a safe distance. While they might give you a quick jump scare, copperheads are actually incredible neighbors to have around. Here is why we love them:

Free Pest Control: They are vital to the ecosystem, keeping populations of rodents, large insects, and frogs in check.

They Want Peace: Copperheads are naturally timid and rely on their camouflage to stay hidden. They don't want trouble and will only strike if they feel directly cornered or stepped on.

Respecting our native wildlife means coexisting safely. Keep your eyes peeled, watch where you put your hands during outdoor chores, and let's appreciate these amazing apex predators from a respectful distance!
