Building an addition onto an existing home is never going to be an easy endeavor, but C.E. Rensberger & Family, LLC Builder sure made the entire project was as easy for us as humanly possible. From our very first brainstorming meeting with Joel, Megan and Frank, all the way through the construction process to our project’s completion, everyone at C.E. Rensberger was outstanding. Professional and always attentive to our needs, we felt as though we had an entire team working with us and alongside us. In fact, it felt like we were all family, without the drama and frustration! Joel and his office team Rose, Megan, Caitlin, et al, worked directly with us on the design process, and also worked feverously behind the scenes interfacing on our behalf with permit acquisitions, businesses, the local HOA, and contractors to make our project come to fruition. The guys on site were hard working, dedicated professionals. Our project manager, Jeff, was a wizard who made things happen like clockwork all while juggling an entire orchestra of contractors. He knows the building process backwards and forwards with years of experience and kept us informed of what to expect weekly. No matter what, Jeff was always responsive to our needs. Chad came on board partway through and worked closely with us on the details that cropped up along the way. He was only a text away for help, like Jeff, if needed. Did I mention they also finished off our basement level, which is now a beautiful living space, in addition to outdoor amenities? Ours was a huge project with many moving parts. They worked through good weather or bad and brought each element together in a very reasonable amount of time; all while respectful of our privacy and kept the construction away from our living space as the work was being done. This passion project-historic restoration is now complete and under contract but the surrounding properties are still available. This property is affectionately called Rabbit Run because of the proliferation of rabbits that always lived here and the natural beauty of the property. Here are the finished photos and the original description from our owner, Joel Rensberger, who spent a large part of his childhood here:

"This Federal-style saltbox home was built in Southern Frederick County Maryland, 1790. Roger Johnson, the original Builder and Owner, was brother to Thomas Johnson, the first Governor of Maryland. Having been appointed as Colonial Governor by King George III, the Johnson family was poised to exploit the many advantages of such connectedness in Colonial Maryland, specifically, Frederick County. The Johnson name can be found on many buildings, roads, and institutions locally today.
Roger Johnson established and ran the Urbana Furnace. This saltbox home was originally situated on the Furnace property. The Urbana Furnace smelted and cast cannon and shot for use by the American Army during the War of 1812. The Furnace likely provided material for the Battles of Baltimore and Bladensburg.
Ownership passed from the Johnsons through about five families over the subsequent 192 years. In approximately 1952, during the construction of I-270 connecting Frederick to Washington, the home was saved and moved from central Urbana Village to its present location, gazing over at Sugarloaf Mountain. Rensbergers purchased the home in 1982 and have lived there the last 43 years.
