We’re in our Late Summer Application, which is the 4th app of the season. We are seeing a lot of drought stress from the heat and w**ds creeping in. 💦 For drought stress, make sure you are checking your sprinklers often. If you notice a dry spot, place a cup on it and run your sprinklers, and see how much it collected. Your lawn needs 3” of water a week. 🌱 For w**ds, proper mowing, edging, and watering helps keep those w**ds out. We are also spot treating w**ds at time of services. Did you know that mowing at a longer length is actually a great way to conserve water? Yep, it’s true! When you mow short, the roots are exposed to a lot more of the heat causing your lawn to need more water and dry up quicker. We always recommended leaving your mower on the highest setting possible. You’ll enjoy a thicker, lusher, greener lawn! If you notice the color of your grass changing color after you mow it, you went to short and need to raise that mower up, up, up! It’s been hot and boy are our lawns, plants, and selfs feeling it ☀️. Before you turn your sprinklers on for the season, make sure you test them all and check each section! Looking for other ways to help your lawn stay healthy this summer? Here are some tips!
🌱 Leave the length of your grass long! Put your mower on the highest setting and leave it there all season. We recommend a lawn height between 3”-4”. Longer grass is actually easier to keep healthy, therefore greener.
💧Check your sprinklers often throughout the season. They very easily get plugged or moved out of alignment.
☀️Add Hydretain to your services done by Ferta-Lawn! Most of the water you put on your lawn is lost to ev***ration. That’s where Hydretain comes in. Hydretain captures the moisture v***r before it’s lost to ev***ration and passes it to the roots of your lawn.
🤓 Water smart. Watering in the early, early morning is the best time for your lawn. A deeper watering 2 times a week is better than a short watering every other day. This time of year, your lawn needs about 1-1.5” of water per week.

While most of us are still relying on Mother Nature to do our watering for us, it is ok if this doesn’t get watered in right away, but if you need to mow before it rains, we recommend mulching. Our crew is out working hard to finish our Early Spring First Apps this week, so we can start our Second Applications, the Late Spring App, next week! Are you wondering why last year you were done in early March and this year mid April? Each year we rotate our schedules so the same people aren’t always done first and the last people aren’t always done last. Our schedules run on a 6 week period for each application, so your lawn can fall anywhere in that 6 week period. We appreciate your patience as we work hard each year to get everyone done!
