Do you want to build a Barndominium? I might be the only one to tell you…
1. I’m almost 44. If you’re younger than me, it might not be time. You have a lot of sacrifices and penny pinching ahead of you.
2. If you aren’t organized you won’t be able to GC your build. Home building requires skill. You can’t cross your fingers and hope for the best. The nice part is you can learn to be organized. (I just happen to have a group that can teach you)
3. It isn’t like it was 10 years ago. Prices are insane. Labor is wild. You are going to have to accept that you’re gonna pay more for less than your parents did.
4. Speaking of parents… have they ever lived in a new construction home? Lots haven’t so stop thinking the only way to go is by building new. Spend some years renovating and adding value to existing construction. You’ll learn a lot and appreciate the new more.
My seasoned barndo living folks- what would you say to the less seasoned (younger) crowd?
