PVC cement does more than just stick two pipes together. 🔧

When PVC pipe is glued, the cement creates a molecular bond between the pieces instead of simply acting like glue on the surface.

Once that joint is properly connected, the bond can become incredibly strong—strong enough that the pipe itself may break before the joint does.

That’s exactly what this video points out.

When a PVC joint fails, the weak point isn't always the glued connection. The angle of the joint and the pressure placed on the pipe can play a big part in what breaks first.

In fact, you’ll often see the pipe break while the glued joint is still holding together.

That’s a pretty good example of how strong a properly made PVC connection can be.

For pool plumbing, those joints are an important part of the system. Understanding how they’re connected can also help explain why a plumbing problem isn't always as simple as finding a “bad glue joint.”

Sometimes, the pipe around the connection is where the real failure happens.

A tiny skimmer leak can be one of the hardest leaks to spot. 💧

The tricky part is that the water around a skimmer isn't completely still. Even when the pool is at rest, the water can move back and forth.

That makes dye testing a small skimmer leak a real test of control.

The technician explains that it takes just the smallest amount of dye. Too much movement can make it harder to see where the dye is going, so the goal is to let a tiny amount float out and watch what happens.

And that's where the steady hand comes in.

For a larger leak, the movement may be easier to see. A smaller skimmer leak can be much more subtle.

In the video, the technician even calls smaller skimmer leaks one of the more difficult types to find.

It's a good example of why leak detection isn't always about seeing a big stream of water. Sometimes the clue is tiny, and the test has to be just as precise.

That little skimmer leak may not look like much, but hours, days, and weeks of a tiny leak add up to real water loss. 👀

Ever wonder why a leak tech takes pictures of the pool surface before leaving? 📸

Those photos aren't just for the leak detection report.

The technician takes a bird's-eye view of the pool and spa, along with pictures of the pool material and the surrounding decking.

There's a practical reason for it.

Those photos are used by the construction and repair team if the pool needs work later.

For example, if a jet face needs to be replaced or another repair involves the pool's surface, the repair team has a visual reference for what they're working with.

That gives them a better idea of the pool's material, the surrounding area, and how the existing finish looks before they plan the repair.

It's a small part of the leak detection process, but it sets the repair team up to make finishes (concrete decks, tile, grout, pool surfaces, etc.) match and the repair go unnoticed.

So when you see your pool being photographed from above and from different angles, there's a reason behind it. So your pool looks great when the repair is completed.

In this case, the goal is simple: give the team handling the repair a clearer picture of the pool they're walking into. 🔧

How long does it take to learn pool repairs? It depends on what you mean by “learn.” 🔧

In this video, the timeline starts with about 3–6 months of training.

At that point, the technician was able to work on his own for easier jobs.

Then came the next stage: more experience, more difficult jobs, and more time in the field.

After about a year, he was handling the full range of jobs the company does.

That’s an important part of learning a hands-on trade. Being trained to work on your own is one milestone. Building enough experience to handle a wide range of repairs is another.

Pool repairs can involve a lot of different situations, so the learning doesn’t really stop when someone starts working solo.

For homeowners, that experience matters when a repair turns out to be a little more complicated than expected.

In this case, it took months to get started independently, and about a year to reach the point of taking on every type of job the company handled.

Here's a Central Florida pool fact that surprises a lot of people... 🤯
Your pool can evaporate more in October than in July! Dry air and breezy days speed things up, while summer humidity slows them down.
The tricky part? It can be hard to tell normal evaporation from a leak. Not sure which one you're dealing with? Relax, we'll handle it.

Underwater, there's a lot of quiet time to think.

In this video, an ALD tech shares a personal side of pool leak detection. While he's underwater working, he often finds himself praying and reflecting on people, life circumstances, his own personal life, and his faith.

He's still focused on finding the leak, of course. But being underwater also gives him a chance to step back from everything else for a little while.
He describes it as therapeutic, a way to filter through what's on his mind while doing the job.

It's a different look at what goes on during a leak inspection. From the outside, it might seem like the work is all about tracking down a problem in the pool. But there are quiet moments in between, too.

Every job has its own challenges, and sometimes the work leaves room for personal reflection along the way.

For this tech, time underwater is about more than finding a leak. It's also a chance to pray, think things through, and come back up with a clearer head.

We've got your back when the pool throws you a new puzzle.

A repeat customer from many years ago can bring a whole new pool leak puzzle.

Of course, the previous issue needs to be addressed and confirmed to not be leaking.

Since most pools have multiple leaks, we will check everything again to see what's changed and what's the source of the issue.

Unless there's significant shifting in the ground and pool structure, we don't revisit pools too often.

But when we do, they're handled as if we've never been there - test everything top to bottom, identify ALL issues, and give clear next steps.

One second you're checking a skimmer. The next… you're in the pool. 🏊

This pool leak tech had only fallen into a pool once.

And of course, it happened on a cold day.

He was checking the skimmer from the edge of the pool. Normally, he’d place his knee pad on the edge and lean over to inspect the face.

This time, the knee pad slipped.

And he went in like a surfer. 😅

It happened fast.

He got out just as fast because the water was seriously cold.

There's a simple reminder here: even routine pool work can involve awkward angles, wet surfaces, and unexpected slips.

Stay safe!
