Meet Wilmaliz Borrero Muriel, Project Manager in our Land Surveying Department—one of our core surveying and mapping business units. Over the past 10 years at Allen & Company, Wilmaliz has built a career spanning both the field and the office, giving her a valuable perspective on what it takes to move a surveying project from concept to completion.

Her experience includes private- and public-sector work, with particular expertise in condominium surveys. She has also completed the Principles and Practice of Land Surveying examination and continues to expand her knowledge, experience, and wisdom in project management. However, her coworkers also know when Wilmaliz is hard at work... That is, when she starts singing out loud! Wilmaliz says enthusiastically: “When I’m really focused, I’m always singing. Everyone notices!”

Wilmaliz also admits to being something of a workaholic, which probably explains how much she's accomplished during her decade with Allen & Company.

We’re proud to have Wilmaliz as a valuable member of the Allen & Company team, and we are excited to see where the next chapter of her career takes her as our organization continues to expand and grow.

Allen & Company goes where no one has gone before. No, we are not stealing this line from a sci-fi series—our surveyors go deep into areas that are covered with thick brush and otherwise hard-to-access locations to survey and measure land. Our field surveyors often encounter nasty snakes, but the most common nuisance is Brazilian red pepper trees—an invasive shrub-like tree found across Central Florida. Because of its relationship to poison ivy, many who come in contact with Brazilian red pepper tree sap can develop allergic skin reactions. To ensure their safety, field surveyors wear protective gear from head to toe, which can be very challenging during the hot summer months. Still, they push through and get the job done, supporting homebuilder projects, commercial construction, and residential development. A Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) in Florida is a state-licensed professional who applies specialized knowledge of measurement, mathematics, geospatial science, land law, and property rights to determine and document the physical and legal characteristics of land. Allen & Company employs several state-licensed PSMs who lead and guide a larger team of specialists. PSM's work may include establishing or retracing property boundaries; locating easements, rights-of-way, improvements, and natural features; preparing legal descriptions, subdivision plats, construction layouts, elevation information, and as-built surveys; and conducting geodetic, hydrographic, topographic, or photogrammetric surveys.
