As we celebrate our centennial year, we're honored to recognize Superintendent Steve Hesson, who has been with R.C. Stevens for more than 46 years. Starting with the company at just 19 years old, Steve has helped shape our story through decades of hard work, leadership, and commitment.

Ray Stevens remained very active in his later years, living at 3336 Lawrence Street, directly across the street from his office, putting in a full 5 1/2 day week, right up to his death at the age of 88, in 1985. Under the capable leadership of Raymond’s son, J. Allyn Stevens, the company built on its time-honored heritage of providing quality, cost-effective projects for its clients during the 80’s and 90’s. In 1995, Dave Smith was appointed President.

Notably, during the 90’s, the company served as the Construction Manager for U.S. Sugar Corp.’s $42 million Southern Gardens facility – Florida’s first, entirely new citrus processing plant since the early 70’s. Healthcare construction also continued to be a mainstay market, with major projects being completed for Health Central, Winter Park Memorial Hospital, and Orlando Regional Healthcare Systems.

"Beat the Heat" recognizes heat stress and preventive measures in place for handling it.

An excess build-up of heat from your body’s own work and any external sources is known as heat stress. This occurs when more heat is generated than released and can transpire into heat-related illness. The four heat-related illnesses are as follows: heat cramps, heat syncope or fainting, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The R. C. Stevens team complies with these seven steps for prevention:
1. Assess personal health in accordance with pre-existing or existing medical conditions and medications.
2. Assess the environmental conditions such as humidity and extreme heat.
3. Ensure acclimatization to gradually adapt to working in high temperatures.
4. Drink enough water and electrolyte beverages, ensuring adequate hydration.
5. Rest in the shade, allowing the body to cool down.
6. Wear light, breathable clothing and hats to reduce sun exposure and added heat load.
7. Learn to recognize heat-related illnesses and increase awareness surrounding heat stress.

Education and knowledge are key to avoiding health issues caused by high temperatures. Knowing the risks and methods of avoidance can help team members aid each other and themselves, keeping us safe this summer.

Project Engineer Joe Garvey shares his career journey from starting as an intern at the Cianbro Institute to his role here at R. C. Stevens. Joe describes his discovery of Cianbro’s internship program and his experience as a member of the team, elaborating on his decision to move to Florida while staying connected to the company network.

“I was first drawn to the construction industry through my love of creating new things. As I explored the endless opportunities within the industry, I saw a clear and exciting path [to] success.

I first learned about Cianbro through ABC and later connected with the company at several career fairs, where I gained insight into its niche within the industry. After learning about the hands-on experiences available and the benefits of the ESOP program, I became confident that an internship with Cianbro would be a great opportunity for me.

When deciding where to begin my full-time career, I knew I wanted to live closer to my siblings here in Florida. I also hoped to maintain a similar work environment to what I experienced at Cianbro and continue building relationships within the company network. After discussing my goals with peers at Cianbro, they encouraged me to explore opportunities with R. C. Stevens. I was fortunate to earn an interview for a Project Engineer position, and I have now been with the company for a year.

My experience with both Cianbro and R. C. Stevens has been enlightening and educational. Every coworker within the Cianbro family of companies has been more than willing to offer guidance whenever I need it. I truly feel that I have a meaningful role to play here, contributing to a larger team effort, which is incredibly rewarding. Whether as an intern or a full-time employee, this is a great place to work and grow as a young professional.

R. C. Stevens is celebrating National Intern Day!

This summer has been rich in learning experiences, for both the team and our 2026 interns. Today we celebrate these young professionals and reflect on the evolution of their knowledge regarding the construction industry. This summer, R. C. Stevens welcomed its biggest intern class yet, and each one contributed significant value to the team. As our interns prepare to return to their respective colleges, they carry with them the expertise they gained throughout the program. The hard and soft skills they learned with R. C. Stevens will continue to serve them throughout their academic and professional careers.

R. C. Stevens 2026 Intern Spotlight: Meet Mike Noradin!

R. C. Stevens is proud to introduce Mike, a Field Engineer Intern pursuing Construction Management at Florida International University.

When asked about his favorite learnable moment, Mike shared:

“One of my favorite learnable moments at RCS was seeing how much coordination and communication it takes to successfully manage a construction site. I learned that keeping the project on schedule isn’t just about the work being done. It’s about planning ahead, working closely with subcontractors, prioritizing safety, and solving problems quickly as they come up. That experience gave me a much better understanding of what it takes to be an effective field engineer and reinforced the importance of teamwork and leadership.”

We’re so glad to have our interns aboard this summer, and we can’t wait to see where this experience takes them!

R. C. Stevens is proud to introduce Taylor, a Marketing Intern pursuing Marketing and Anthropology at the University of Central Florida.

When asked about her favorite learnable moment, Taylor shared:

“My favorite learnable moment from my time here at R. C. Stevens was becoming more familiar with different marketing systems and programs. The software that I’m utilizing now will continue to benefit me throughout my career. The team has been so supportive in ensuring that I understand the functions and capabilities of our applications, and that they are used to develop my skills and knowledge. The trust from my mentors has allowed me to become more confident in my abilities and make an impact that will last.”

The team has had a blast this summer with our 2026 interns. We can't wait to see what they achieve next!

R. C. Stevens 2026 Intern Spotlight: Meet Suzie Fleurime!

R. C. Stevens is proud to introduce Suzie, a Project Management Intern pursuing Construction Management at The Seminole State College of Florida.

When asked about her favorite learnable moment, Suzie shared:

“This experience has been a peak highlight. Witnessing the behind the scenes of construction is beautiful. From the pre-construction documents to the final stages, and everything in between. I would say my favorite part is being a sponge who’s eager to learn. I feel excited when I learn something new, I do my little dance and can’t wait to implement it. Shout out to my Project Engineer Kristina Duprey, who is amazing at what she does. I’m grateful for her knowledge and patience [teaching] me everything I know.
Thank God for such a blessed opportunity. GO R. C. STEVENS!”

This summer, the team has been so excited to work with our interns and see their passion shine through their efforts. The future looks bright for the construction industry!
