We dont zip line often but when we do it’s BIG! Thats a 12’ log over 25” in diameter, tree looked healthy but closer inspection of root system showed signs of decay and sure enough the tree was starting to decay. Time to go!

Good reminder to how heavy ice is! 😂 if you don’t think your tree can handle that many dogs than it won’t handle the ice! We are ready for whatever this storm brings!

"Just a quarter to half inch of ice? What's the big deal?"

Ice is HEAVY, and when it falls in the form of freezing rain, it sticks to everything. Every leaf, branch, and twig on a tree gathering ice adds up to a lot of weight in a hurry.

Worst-case scenario for this weekend could bring some 0.5" totals to Central Texas. On a 30ft wide tree, that adds up to more than 7,000 pounds of ice, or roughly 109.5 fully-grown golden retrievers. That's enough to send some limbs tumbling into powerlines in some instances.
