Arc blasts are some of the hottest blasts known to man. They happen when a circuit becomes faulted to ground or even worse, faulted phase to phase or line to line. In this case we intentionally created a line to line fault on a 240 volt circuit which is common in every home. We did it to show you how quickly it happens and how hot it becomes. The arc blast was over quickly because the circuit breaker worked properly and cleared the fault. When circuits fault they can instantaneously spray molten metal onto combustible surroundings which can cause severe burns and fires.

Please do not attempt this at home.

60 amp Main and Range services were among the first services installed when the rural electric utilities originally brought power to the area. 70 to 80 years later we still find these fuse panels in full service. Here is one we changed out today. You can see the fuse block has been overheated and discolored after years of being overloaded and pushed to the limit.

In the electrical trade we often refer to the term "bad connection." A bad connection is exactly what it's name implies, it's simply a connection that has gone bad. When connections go bad several things can happen. Blinking or dimming lights, ground faults and conductor overheating are some of the hazards. But, in Clifford's case, his vacuum suddenly quit working and he was left standing in the dark.

After a brief investigation, The Lord blessed us when he shined a light on this little devil and within a few minutes we had Clifford again on his way to cleaner carpets and brighter days! Improperly connected neutrals and grounds, as well as overloads and loose connections can cause conductor insulation to heat up, deteriorate and decay. In some cases the conductor insulation can actually fall off, leaving exposed, energized live wires inside the walls, ceilings and floors. Here are examples of hidden hazards we found recently.
