As another storm approaches we wanted to share a fun fact: When water runs into pool drains during a storm, it is mostly rainwater which is flowing off. Because of this, the rainwater does not mix into the depths of your pool, and your pool water remains balanced for the most part.

Hurricane Dorian is coming, there is nothing we can do to prevent the amount of water we may or may not receive over the next several days. You might be tempted to drain your pool, rather than let it overflow.

The reality, however, is that this can do much more harm than good!!! Removing to much water can cause the pool to pop out of the ground due to excessive pressure from water underground. Removing water also leaves the pool walls unprotected and more likely to become chipped or damaged from flying debris.

We are no strangers to frequent heavy downpours this time of year. If the area surrounding your pool has proper drainage, it should be OK in a storm. Clean out any drains that may be clogged to help the outward flow of water. Your pool deck was designed to move water away from the entry ways of your home.

If you’re still adamant about draining some water from your pool, please drain no more than 6 inches below the skimmer and/or a total of one foot from the top of the tile. In order to do this, you must turn off the skimmer valve that is located before the pump near the suction side of the pump. Otherwise you risk damaging the pool pump.

Obviously, if there is heavy wind and rain, we may not be able to service your pool on the same day and/or time as usual, but we will get back out there as soon as possible. Please be patient as we get your swimming pool back to optimal condition after the storm has passed our area.
