WILDFIRE UPDATE - 09.01.26 8:00 PM

Firefighting resources on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest are working to locate any new fires starts caused by multiple cloud-to-ground lightning strikes on Siskiyou Mountains and High Cascades Ranger Districts as thunderstorms move through the area.

Even with some precipitation, conditions across the forest remain extraordinarily dry. Lightning-caused fires have potential to spread if not detected quickly. Fire lookouts, ground patrols and detection cameras are used in reconnaissance during and after lightning storms, as well as aerial detection platforms when they are able to fly.

If you see unattended fire or smoke on forest land, please call 911, and watch for firefighters as you travel through the forest this week.

The division has worked with the U.S. Forest Service - Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests in North Central Idaho to provide a Type 6 engine unit strike team to respond to wildfires as needed. The division has had personnel and three engines on site since mid-July. The fourth rotation of the seven-person unit arrived this weekend.
