She’s a bit small but very dense and nicely shaped. She’s also high-strung. She’s in the garage for a bit, not because there’s anything wrong but because she’ll get more face time and maybe warm up to people.

I did breed her to George (our sweetheart) to see what we’d get. It was a small litter- 4. But all fast growers and big and super friendly, like George friendly. So the George genes win, I think. And Penelope did a fabulous job of momming. It’s probably good to keep one doe that has small litters to foster a few from big litters. So she’s a confirmed keeper in spite of a somewhat questionable temperament.

Jalapeño and Serrano are starting to take off. We haven’t hit 90 yet and I know they like it hot. But I don’t want 90 degree days. But I do want tasty peppers.

Rain had been sparse this spring, but I’ve managed watering so far with water collected at the garden shed. And I do have mulch to put down I’ve just been trying to get as much cleared & hill rows placed before adding mulch… yes, perfection can be the enemy of progress.

The big buck from the December 23 litter weighs in just shy of 10 lbs at 5 1/2 months. I still think he’ll end up close to 12 lbs plus he’s really solid, super friendly (though he’s not a fan of being picked up - we’re working on that).

I grew a peach. 1. Three years, 7 trees, 1 peach. Still rock hard so I’ll give it a few more days.Here’s hoping I get it...

I’ve heard that you should remove potato flowers to tell the plants to work harder on the roots. I always feel a little bad about taking them off 🤷‍♀️ but I do. Though I’m going to let them fruit on a few plants to try cross pollinated a few different types to see what I get. It’ll be a fun little experiment.

This handsome rooster left us today…

A few years ago, when I wanted to try my hand at hatching chicks, I needed a rooster. I mentioned it to my tree guy and he loaned me his XXL barred rock for a few weeks to breed my black australorps. Very successful, kept one rooster from the hatch, and even bred another generation. This guy is one of those.

My tree guy was out today with his daughter and they mentioned they had lost Hoss (the borrowed roo). I had 3, the 1st generation from Hoss and 2 of his offspring. Now I have 2.

Hoping this guy has a long happy life with his new harem. He’s gonna get a lot of love over there ❤️
