When I went to SWAT this year I wasn't looking for anything. So I have a small haul this year. First is the Turner's Bowl Finish from Turners Warehouse . I got a chance to use it during my demos and was tremendously impressed by how well it works and the price. I bought this and plan to use it soon. I picked up some Axminster Tools centers. The Light pull center, because I have had several occasions when I thought hey I wish I had one to turn this, a multi-tooth live center to match a drive center I already have, and a match drive and live safety center to play with for teaching the skew. I won the epoxy putty from Starbond Premium Superglues when I visited their booth and am interested in trying it out. The blank was a left over blank for the demos I was told I could have. I think I will make the hollow form design during my first demo to practice that technique. SWAT was great as ever. I got to meet turners I have never met in person, make new friends, and see all of my friends that I only get the chance to see here. I look forward to next year.

Last week I was contacted by Martin from Goebel Furniture contacted me needing some draw pulls made in African Blackwood and Ebony for a piece he was building, and quickly. I have been wanting to collaborate with him so I agreed to knock them out before SWAT. I got them in the mail yesterday. Tricky bit of turning, but fun to make. I can't wait to see them in the final piece.

Just finished a demo for EasyWoodTools at Woodcraft San Antonio I made this lovely lidded bowl with a cherry base and a black walnut top. Had a great engaged group watching me and really enjoyed getting to share how to make this piece.

I talked to Josh after I filmed this and the first piece is Hackberry, the last photo shows some box blanks that I have already cut up. Looking forward to working all of this.

I made a style dome box. The Alamo Woodturner's Association is a supporting chapter of the Southwest Association of Woodturner's commonly called SWAT. Every year we are asked to make decorations for the Saturday night meal during the symposium. This year they want boxes. So at our guild meeting last Thursday I was given 7 boxes from two of our members to bring up for SWAT, shown in the last photo. I showed them to Tawney and she really liked the shape of the two boxes made in the style that Benoit made famous. I met him in 2018 at the Utah State symposium I had seen him demo this box, but completely forgot how he did it. So I found a demo on YouTube in French. I may not have understood what he said, but it had great camera work of how he was making all of the cuts. So yesterday I had some fun playing with a piece of Spalted Pecan that I was going to make a box out of anyway. The shape really shows off the grain of the wood. The second photo shows the inside of the lid. I got it a little thin up near the top of the dome. Fun box and one I will work on again.

Six years ago today I had a table saw accident that led to having what is called a ray amputation of my left index finger. The damage was too great to attach the part of my finger that was cut off. I will say in general I have adapted well. I can do most everything I could do before my accident. Few people notice unless I point it out. I own a now and as I showed earlier this year when I nicked the blade with a finger they work very well at saving body parts that come in contact with a table saw. Accidents happen so fast, I was using push sticks when this happened. You just don't know, so be safe as you can in the shop.

Today I demoed this for at the store in San Antonio. This was a "stump the chump" challenge. They gave me 2 pieces of figured Maple and asked for a lidded box. The base was 7"x3" and the lid was a 6"x2" blank so I chose to do an in-fitting lid. As I trued up the base I was inspired by Dublin Viking Bowl thinking it would show off the figure well. I had a great time making a fun piece.

This is the state of my laptop after my IRD for last night. I demoed this Top and Launcher in white oak, and was asked at the end to show a "normal" top (last photo).

My design was inspired by .kanne from a YouTube video he put out in 2024. I made the one with the red string in the background then. I showed it to some guild members then and was asked to demo it at the next meeting.

I am able to do IRD's now. If your club is looking for someone new to demo please DM me and I can share the list of demos I do.
