Saturday Safety Tip: Grilling Safety.

It's Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer! With many families gathering outdoors and firing up grills, here are some important tips from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

✅ Propane & charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.
✅ Place grills away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves or overhanging branches.
✅ Never leave your grill unattended.
✅ Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat build-up.

Saturday Safety Tip: May is Electrical Safety Month!

Being safe around electrical equipment can also help prevent fires. May is Electrical Safety Month, so here are some tips to keep you and your workplace safe.

🔌 Avoid overloading outlets.
🔌 Keep electrical equipment away from water sources.
🔌 Hide electrical cords to avoid tripping hazards.
🔌 Unplug equipment safely at the base of the cord.
🔌 Investigate flickering lights.

Say it with us: 👏 Sprinklers 👏 Save 👏 Lives!

This save comes from the Alton IL Fire Department, courtesy of the National Fire Sprinkler Association - NFSA.

Lat month, Alton, IL firefighters credited the fire sprinkler system and thorough training with containing a fire at a high-rise assisted living facility. Upon reaching the third floor, fire crews encountered a hallway filled with heavy smoke. However, the fire sprinkler had already activated. According to fire officials, a single sprinkler had activated in the unit where the fire originated. The sprinkler suppressed the flames and prevented the fire from advancing into the hallway or adjacent apartments.

💦 Sprinklers Save Lives 💦

Last month, the Easthampton Fire Department was called around 2:45 a.m. to a large mill complex. Crews arrived to find both the fire alarm and water flow alarm activated, along with smoke inside the 300,000 sq. ft building. Firefighters entered the building and located the source of the smoke in a large office space, where the sprinkler system had already activated. Crews found an active fire burning beneath an office table and were able to extinguish it using a portable fire extinguisher.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by battery-operated tea lights that had been exposed to nearby combustible materials for an extended period. No injuries report, minimal damage.

We were honored to have U.S. Senator Chris C***s join us at the Delaware Contractors Association luncheon last week. He had the opportunity to spend time with some students from Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical High School, who are part of DCA’s Future Leaders program. We can't wait to see where they go!
