We recently completed an exterior upgrade in the South Westmont neighborhood of Willowbrook that included siding, eaves, gutters, and window trim work. The team installed 1/4" foam insulation board beneath new L.P. SmartSide siding to add a layer of thermal protection, then updated approximately 210 feet of eaves with Triple 4" white aluminum soffit panels and custom-formed white aluminum fascia trim. We also installed a seamless aluminum K-style gutter system with oversized 3"x4" downspouts and SureFlo gutter screens to help manage water runoff and reduce debris buildup. To finish the rear elevation, we wrapped the window sills, casings, and door jambs in custom white aluminum trim and sealed all transitions with OSI Quad caulk. It was a project with a lot of small details, and the team took the time to make sure each piece fit together properly.

This was a very large total house transformation project that we completed in Fall of 2025 in the Arrowhead neighborhood of Wheaton. The project included completely residing the home, updating the exterior trim, replacing windows and patio doors, and completing targeted roofing repairs to resolve the severe water infiltration issues the homeowner was experiencing.

The team began by removing the existing siding, replacing rotted framing and sheathing, and then installing new siding throughout the entire home in a custom Benjamin Moore shade of green, along with black eaves featuring LP fascia in a custom Benjamin Moore shade of black, paired with black triple 4" aluminum soffit, and seamless 6" black gutters with oversized downspouts and leaf filters to improve drainage.

We also installed 22 black Marvin Elevate windows, with new interior colonial casing, and replaced the two double patio doors with new black ProVia units.

We also dealt with several roof issues. The original roof was missing drip edge on the gable rakes, had dysfunctional flashing around the chimney, and the two front bump outs had roof sheathing that was installed incorrectly and allowing pests into the house. Our team stripped back the shingles several rows around each of these areas, installed the proper flashing details, and installed new CertainTeed Landmark Pro shingles in Moire Black on the repaired areas as well as the front bump-outs and chimney shoulder roof to match the existing roofing.

It was a project completed in several stages, and it was rewarding to see each phase come together over time!

Finished up a door replacement in the Arrowhead neighborhood in Wheaton a little while back. We pulled out the existing front entry door and sidelites and put in a ProVia Heritage fiberglass system — 6-panel door with full-length Mirage glass sidelites, black on the outside and white on the inside, satin nickel hardware out front and antique brass inside. We wrapped the exterior brick moulding in aluminum trim coil and sealed everything with OSI QUAD foam and color-matched caulk to keep it tight. While we were there we also replaced the weatherstripping on the back entry door that had been letting in drafts. Came out clean and solid.

We finished this project up in Winfield early this spring. The team pulled off the old aluminum siding and replaced it with CertainTeed Monogram Double 5" in a calming Seagrass color. We also added rigid foam on the sunroom to deal with draftiness they were experiencing in that part of the home.

The team also replaced the old front entry door and storm door with new units, including an expanded half-lite on the front door that opened up and brightened the entryway. Finally, we installed a new fire-rated garage entry door to replace an older dysfunctional unit.

We worked with the homeowner to complete their insurance claim, which allowed them to have the vast majority of the work covered, so they only had to pay a small portion out-of-pocket for this total home transformation.

As certified CertainTeed siding installers, we were able to provide this homeowner with an extended warranty that allows them to pass on the lifetime coverage to the next homeowner when they sell the house.

The homeowner told us they've been getting a lot of compliments from the neighbors since we wrapped up, which is always nice to hear!

One of the most important parts (and my personal favorite of the overall process) of any siding project has nothing to do with installation.

It’s the design.

This is the stage where everything comes together. Color, contrast, textures, trim details. The difference between a house that looks “fine” and one that actually stands out is almost always decided here.

Most companies won’t help you with this. Ask them what colors they recommend and you’ll usually get a shrug and “whatever you want.” They’re installers. Their job starts once the materials show up.

We take a different approach.

We work through combinations with you. Siding color, trim color, accents, depth, proportions. We help you visualize how it all fits together before anything is ordered so you’re not guessing on a decision you’ll live with for decades.

If you already know exactly what you want, we’ll build it.

If you don’t, that’s where we can add the most value.

Just completed this full deck design + build project in Westchester.

The homeowner was unhappy with their existing deck because it was falling apart, and the pergola design let too much sunlight into their deck area—rendering it unusable during the summer.

We ended up designing a deck on the same footprint, but that incorporated a full shingle roof design, and will be installing exterior blinds on the outside at a later date to provide full sunlight blocking.

The homeowner also wanted the ability for a ceiling fan, canned lighting and mounted TV in the future, so we designed the ceiling joist layout around that future plan to make it easy for them to add those features down the line.

Trex Enhance Naturals decking and fascia (in Coastal Bluff) was used, along with the Trex Select Composite railing and gate system, topped with a Trex Transcend Lineage drink rail (in Spiced Rum).

Looking forward to the homeowner enjoying the rest of the sunny days we will get this year before it cools down for winter.

What do you think?

Latest Google testimonial from a happy homeowner:

"The siding on my home did not survive the winter, I found Diamond Standard Exteriors on the BBB web site and reached out for a quote. Ben and Joe came out to my home within a few days to discuss my options and I settled on LP Smart Side siding. Ben and Joe were very upfront about the costs and time frame of residing my house. The crew that worked on my house was very professional and worked quickly. The old siding was removed, the house had new house wrap and completely resided in 9 days. I can not recommend DS Exteriors enough, you won't be disappointed. - Jeff H."

Thank you for the opportunity to transform your home, Jeff! Enjoy the beautiful new exterior.

We started a new exterior remodeling project today in Willowbrook. During demo, we removed the existing aluminum siding and uncovered a layer of original Masonite lap siding underneath—a relatively common scenario in homes built in this era.

The existing aluminum siding was installed horizontally with a larger exposure than the new siding we’re putting on, which will be LP SmartSide lap siding in the Desert Stone color. Whenever possible, we leave the original siding in place to add some insulation value and reduce demolition waste. However, when re-siding over something like Masonite, especially with a horizontal profile, it’s important to address surface irregularities.

To ensure a flat and stable surface for the new siding, we’ll be installing rigid foam insulation over the existing Masonite. This helps correct inconsistencies and prevents the new lap siding from mirroring the angles of the original material beneath. Housewrap goes over this next, prior to the siding being installed.

This project also includes building out a new 72-inch-wide window unit in the living room wall to bring in more natural light, and re-siding the detached garage. As part of the garage work, we’ll be re-trimming the garage door and service door to square out the corners and give the structure a more modern look that ties in better with the main home.

After resolving the issues at our current Hinsdale project caused by the previous exterior install by a former homeowner, we were finally left with a solid, sealed, flat foundation on which to lay new siding. All windows and doors are properly flashed (including tape and z flashing above each opening) with seam taped house wrap covering all walls in their entirety.

We also installed some new counter flashing along the roof line and will be installing kick out flashing at the corners to redirect water into the gutters and away from the siding, so that it stays in great condition.

Between this and the creative use of the rigid board exterior insulation to even out and fur out the angled walls, the new exterior will both look much better, and equally as important—perform much better—than before.

House wrap inspection passed last week with flying colors, and the team has been diligently working on the residing. We will be wrapping up the finishing touches today and ready to tackle the next project!
