Art has the power to transform spaces, spark memories, and create meaningful moments of connection. At the Marlin and Doris Thomas Memory Center at Willow Valley Communities, a remarkable new collaborative mural is doing just that.

Located within the Town Center and spanning an impressive 36 feet long by 18 feet high, this one-of-a-kind installation celebrates the beauty of Lancaster County through a painted aerial landscape seamlessly blended with richly textured cowhide. Designed to both inspire awe and serve a therapeutic purpose, the mural artfully disguises a secure entry point while providing a calming sensory experience that encourages touch, engagement, and comfort for residents and visitors of all ages.

Created through the generosity and talent of Kyle Bunting, the internationally acclaimed Austin, Texas-based cowhide artist known for his innovative use of color and texture, the mural reflects a shared commitment to dignity-centered dementia care and groundbreaking design.

We are deeply grateful to Kyle Bunting for his creativity and involvement in bringing this extraordinary work to life. We also extend our deepest heartfelt thanks to Hank and Linda Spire, whose generous support made this meaningful installation possible. Together, they have helped create a lasting legacy that challenges traditional environments and enhances the experience of every person who enters the Marlin and Doris Thomas Memory Center.

A behind-the-scenes look at Lakes construction! Over 43,000 square feet of interior and exterior spaces are being reimagined to better support the way our Residents live, gather, and connect. Beautifully remodeled amenity areas, refreshed dining spaces, library, auditorium, and more are all taking shape. Outside, the old entrance is gone, making way for a brand-new Porte cochere and lobby that will welcome Residents, Team Members, and guests. Big things are coming — stay tuned!

CCS Building Group has had the honor of working with Willow Valley Communities in creating one of the first facilities of its kind in all of North America - the Marlin & Doris Thomas Memory Care Center. 🌟

Built around one core mission of improving the lives of those living with dementia by promoting independence, freedom, and a true sense of home, this groundbreaking facility is truly unlike any other. We've been working alongside international designers from the Netherlands, healthcare experts, and community stakeholders to transform a revolutionary care philosophy into beautifully designed cafes, salons, gardens, and homes for 140 residents. For those living with dementia, environment shapes daily experience - and familiar spaces like a neighborhood cafe, a garden path, or a salon help residents maintain a connection to memory and routine. The Marlin & Doris Thomas Memory Care Center was built so that residents live with autonomy and dignity, not as visitors or patients at a facility, but as true members of a community designed entirely around their needs!
