We would like to introduce our Team Member – Taylor

Taylor is a Skilled Laborer in our Civil Division. Those who work with Taylor appreciate how he is not afraid to ask questions or speak up when he has an idea, but he also listens well to those around him. His desire to learn has been foundational to how he has grown through his time at ECI and we look forward to seeing all he will accomplish.

🦺 What attracted you to ECI:
When he finished high school a family member of an employee recommended he give ECI a try.

🦺 How have you grown at ECI:
Taylor was hired as laborer with zero construction experience, but through a willingness to show up each day, listen to those around him, and pay attention he has become a valuable member of our team.

🦺 Most fun job:
“Hydroseeding with the bulldozer on some crazy trails in Jericho.”

🦺 Best advice:
The best way to learn is to ask questions and then get out there and give it your best.

🦺 What do you do for fun outside of work:
Taylor enjoys fishing, hunting, kayaking, camping, and pretty much anything that involves being outside.

🦺 What is your favorite thing about working at ECI:
Every day is different which provides opportunities to learn new things, and it also means that you’re not stuck doing the same thing you dislike day after day.

Our crew has been working this summer to prep, place and finish over a mile of sidewalk at the Milton Hourglass project, and have done a phenomenal job!

🚧 As a reminder, it takes hours for the guys to pour and finish each section of sidewalk and even longer to fix when someone ignores the cones and tape and tries to walk or bike on the wet sidewalk.

🚧 Please don't be like the person in the last photo and create more work for our crew.

🚧 South Burlington Pedestrian Bridge Update 🚧

Our crew recently poured the concrete for Abutment 1 next to I-89S and will begin forming Abutment 2 next to I-89N.

Please be aware there will be upcoming lane closures on I-89 North and South from 9am-3pm most week days.

ECI was contracted with VTrans to perform the reconstruction of the Quarry Hill Railroad Crossing on the Washington County Railroad in Barre, VT.

Our scope of work included the full depth road reconstruction, 3 culvert replacements, crossing reconstruction, and crossing signal installation which included cantilevers and approach warning lights.

Most of the work was performed utilizing alternating one way traffic, and one very rainy 9-hour road closure.

Our crew did an amazing job pushing through difficult soil conditions, fighting through rainy weather, and did a phenomenal job coordinating all the moving parts to make this job a success.

🚧 Route 2A Paving – Williston, VT 🚧

We are excited to announce that crews will be paving the final asphalt coat on the Route 2A project starting Monday 9/21.

Monday thru Friday from 6am to 12pm Industrial Ave will be closed to through traffic from the pedestrian bridge by North Brownell Road to 2A and on Mountain View Ave from Marions Ave and 2A. Additionally from 12pm to 3pm there will be periodic single-lane closures with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers.

As always please use caution, follow posted speed limits, and plan accordingly.

Please note that that there is also line striping on state highways throughout Vermont. Traffic cones on lines in the roadway indicate that there is wet paint. Please drive with caution in these marked areas, slow down, and avoid contact with the cones and paint.

We would like to introduce our Team Member – Sara

Sara is our Construction Administrator. In short, she is the liaison between operations and admin. While it may not be in her job description, many people have described Sara as the glue that holds the company together. Sara’s willingness to tackle new tasks and teach those around her are two of the main things that have propelled her to where she is today. Many people have commented that they appreciate how meticulous and prompt she is, and that she doesn’t let things fall through the cracks. Sara exemplifies the ECI Code of Conduct, and we are so thankful to have her on our team!

🦺 Employment at ECI:
Almost 25 years.

🦺 How have you grown at ECI:
Sara was hired as the front desk receptionist, and any time she saw a need she was the first one to offer help. The more tasks she helped others with the more they asked her to do. Sara admits that she didn’t always know what she was doing, but she would do her best and ask for feedback, and the more she tried the more comfortable she became with taking on new tasks.

🦺 Key Responsibilities:
Sara is responsible for working with the Project Managers to get insurance and bonds for our projects, and making sure the jobs are in our system so they can be billed properly. She is also responsible for obtaining and distributing company apparel to the employees, heading up the employee annual giving, planning and executing company events, and so much more.

🦺 Most fun job:
Sara loves the customer service she provides to all the employees who come to her desk. Sara is never too busy to stop and help someone out, and if she doesn’t have an answer, she will make sure she gets one.

🦺 Best advice:
If you put in the hard work you will reap the rewards, but nothing comes for free.

🦺 What do you do for fun outside of work:
Sara enjoys traveling to warm places, camping and dragon boat racing.

🦺 Fun fact:
In 2020 Sara was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through the surgery, treatments, recovery and eventual remission the entire ECI family rallied around her. Many of the guys shaved their heads to support her through the hair loss and the company started selling pink t-shirts and sweatshirts to bring awareness to breast cancer.

🦺 What is your favorite thing about working at ECI:
The people. In her words, “The ECI team is a family who celebrates each other and helps each other grow and become better both at their job and in their every day life”.

🚧 Attention - Traffic Signal Work on Industrial Ave 9/14 - Williston, VT 🚧

Lane closures will be in effect from 9am to 3pm and major delays are expected at the intersection of 2A and Industrial Ave on Monday 9/14. As you are driving through the area please plan for extra time, limit distractions, and pay attention to all road signs.

We would like to introduce our Team Member – Garrett

Garrett is a Bridge Worker in our Heavy Civil and Rail Division. Those who work with Garrett appreciate how he shows up each day ready to work hard and have fun doing it. He is also willing to speak up and ask good questions, which has helped him to grow in his knowledge of the work and will continue to propel his career. Garrett is an asset to the team, and we look forward to watching him continue to grow in his construction knowledge and his ability to lead those around him.

🦺 Employment at ECI:
2.5 years.

🦺 What attracted you to ECI:
Garrett knew a few people who worked at ECI and they recommended he give it a try.

🦺 Education/Qualifications:
After High School Garrett went to Advanced Welding School and started at ECI immediately after completing his schooling.

🦺 How have you grown at ECI:
Since being at ECI Garrett has grown in his knowledge of construction, passed his vertical and overhead bridge welding certifications and has obtained a Class A CDL.

🦺 Key Responsibilities:
Show up to work and do what he is told.

🦺 Most fun job:
Garrett enjoyed the railroad culvert in Fairlee because there was always something new to do so the work didn’t get boring.

🦺 Best advice:
Construction is not for everyone, but there’s plenty of room for growth.
In his words, “If you’ve ever considered trying it just do it. You won’t like what you’re doing every day, but you’ll get to learn a lot of different things.”

🦺 What do you do for fun outside of work:
Garrett enjoys spending time with friends, hunting, fishing, playing hockey and spending time on the lake.

🦺 Fun fact:
His favorite movie is The Goonies.

🦺 What is your favorite thing about working at ECI:
Garrett really enjoys the crew he works with and especially likes the opportunity to work out of town as he gets to see different places and build more camaraderie with the guys.

Road Closure - Bay Road at Spinnaker Lane, Shelburne, VT

Bay Road is closed between Spinnaker Lane and the bridge crossing the La Platte River to all traffic until further notice. Additionally Bay Road between Point View Drive and Edward Drive will be alternating one lane traffic with flaggers.

The Town of Shelburne, Vermont has asked that only local traffic use Bay Road.
