Our crew in West Lebanon, NH has been working on preparations for the year long road closure of the 12A Bridge. This project will include the complete removal of the currently deteriorated road bridge before work on the new bridge begins. Due to the high pedestrian traffic in this area it is important to maintain foot traffic, so our crew has been working on preparations for a temporary pedestrian bridge that will be open throughout the entire year long road closure. As of yesterday the crew completed setting the structural steel for the pedestrain bridge and will continue to install the bridge deck, fence and handrails prior to the road closure which will begin on September 14th.

If you are in the area please drive slowly, follow all road signs, stay out of the construction site, and please stay off the pedestrian bridge until it is open.

We would like to introduce our Team Member – Don (on left)

Don is a Concrete Foreman. Those on his crew appreciate how he is always leading from the front. If he expects them to have a good attitude, he’s going to have one, if he wants them to push through a pour, he’s going to be right there working with them. Don’s experience and skill working with concrete are obvious and that paired with his positive attitude and willingness to lead make him a huge asset to our team.

🦺 Employment at ECI:
3 years

🦺 What attracted you to ECI:
He was actually done with concrete and wanted to find a different line of work, but ended up applying at ECI as one last attempt at sticking with what he knew and has been pleasantly surprised with the culture of the company.

🦺 Education/Qualifications:
Don has been doing concrete for about 20 years.

🦺 Most fun job:
He really enjoyed working on the Richmond Bridge, and specifically the center pier, because that was his first real understanding of how much concrete can get poured in one spot.

🦺 Best advice:
You get out what you put in, so if you skimp on the effort, you won’t reap the reward.

🦺 What do you do for fun outside of work:
He enjoys going to the gym and spending time with his family,

🦺 Fun fact:
He has a little farm that has goats, chickens, pigs, dogs and cats.

🦺 What is your favorite thing about working at ECI:
The small things that the company does, like bringing bagels to the office on Friday. It’s a small act, but a lot of small acts are what make ECI stand out from other companies.

We would like to introduce our Team Member – Avery

Avery is a Skilled Laborer on our Signal and Electrical Crew. Those who work with Avery appreciate the desire he has to work hard, listen to instruction, and understand what he is being taught. Avery believes that if each guy on the crew is learning and growing the whole company will succeed and this is evident in the way he is continually finding opportunities to share what he knows and encourage those he works with. We look forward to watching Avery grow both in his experience in the field and as he begins his first year of classes as an Electrical Apprentice.

🦺 Employment at ECI:
1.5 years.

🦺 What attracted you to ECI:
Avery was working in HVAC and wanted to pursue his electrical license and have more stable work. At the time ECI was hiring for our signal crew, and after seeing the job description he was intrigued and he hasn’t looked back.

🦺 Key responsibilities:
Avery works alongside his crew doing everything from earthwork to electrical wiring.

🦺 Most fun job:
The intersection of 2A and Industrial Ave in Williston was a favorite because it was the first big job in a high profile area he was able to see start to finish.

🦺 Best advice:
Take care of your body, it is your first tool.
Practically this looks like going to the doctor, drinking water, exercising, and thinking about what you’re putting into your body.

🦺 What do you do for fun outside of work:
Avery enjoys spending time with his family and reading in his hammock.

🦺 Fun fact:
He really enjoys Stephen King books.

🦺 What is your favorite thing about working at ECI:
When he found out the company was Employee Owned that sealed the deal as it holds everyone to a higher standard and produces more of an ownership mentality in all the employees.

We were contracted by the City of South Burlington to complete Phase II of the City Center Park project. The goal of this project was to improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity throughout the City Center district. The majority of the work this project included was new paved pathways, elevated boardwalks, site lighting, landscaping, and drainage improvements.

One of the most unique aspects of the project was the construction of approximately 500 feet of elevated boardwalk through wetland and low-lying areas. Unlike a traditional boardwalk, this system utilized precast concrete PermaTrak treads and beams supported on helical pile foundations. Our team installed test piles throughout the installation and then load tested them using a hydraulic jack and reaction frame. Each pile was loaded to 150% of its design load while settlement was carefully monitored. The successful testing program confirmed the foundation system would perform as designed for years to come.

Our crew did an amazing job of working in wet and cold conditions and building the path in a way that minimized environmental impacts and also allowed the park to still be utilized by pedestrians and bicyclists throughout construction.

On July 7th the City celebrated the grand opening of the path. If you are in South Burlington and looking for something to do, head on over to City Center and enjoy the new path that includes a story walk and play area for the kids. This path really is a wooded oasis in the middle of bustling South Burlington.
