Why does the same pothole keep opening back up no matter how many times you fill it?

A cold-patch fill sits on top of the hole — it doesn't touch the cracked, weakened asphalt surrounding it. That edge keeps failing, and the patch goes with it.

A real repair cuts back to solid pavement around the damage first, then fills it properly. It costs more than a quick patch. It also actually works.

Rochester gets dozens of freeze-thaw cycles every winter — and every one of them can widen a hairline crack in your driveway.

Ignore it now, and water works its way in. Each time it refreezes, the crack grows a little more.

By spring, that small crack you meant to get to "eventually" can turn into a full section repair or repave.

We'll flag small problems while they're still small and inexpensive to fix, because that's the option that actually saves you money.

Asphalt needs the ground and air to hold a minimum temperature to bond correctly. Pour too late in the season, and it won't cure the way it should.

That surface won't fail today — it'll crack apart next winter, long after the rushed crew is gone.

We'd rather say "let's wait for spring." A job that's rushed to beat the weather is a job that's already behind before it starts.

Every stamped concrete driveway or patio comes with a maintenance schedule most installers never mention: reseal it every two to three years.

Skip that window and the surface doesn't fail overnight — it fades. UV rays wash out the color first, dulling the finish and flattening the contrast that made the pattern look sharp in the first place.

Then moisture starts working into hairline cracks that were barely visible when the concrete was new. Every freeze-thaw cycle after that makes them wider.

If you're dealing with a Rochester winter and using salt, add one more factor. Salt eats away at unprotected concrete, pitting the surface and breaking down the finish faster than sun or moisture alone.

The timeline shifts depending on how much traffic the surface sees and how much sun and salt it takes on. A shaded backyard patio might stretch past three years. A driveway that gets plowed and salted every winter needs attention closer to the two-year mark.

We'd rather tell you this before we hand over the keys than have you find out the hard way. Stamped concrete is an investment in how your property looks — protecting that investment doesn't stop when the crew packs up.

Sealcoating protects. It seals out moisture and UV rays — it doesn't repair.

A structural crack keeps spreading underneath a sealed surface whether you can see it or not. We'll tell you when sealcoating is enough, and when it isn't, even if the real fix costs more.

A crack that's sealed over is still a crack. It's just easier to ignore until it isn't.

What actually determines that is buried underneath — the depth and compaction of the base and subgrade. Skip that step, and even a flawless top layer will crack and settle early.
