Since the beginning of 2011, the City of Wildwood has been working on a Community Garden for Wildwood residents. The community garden movement has been gaining ground throughout the country and, after two (2) initial meetings held

by the City in April to gauge the community's interest, it was determined there was substantial support for developing a Wildwood garden. The City wanted to encourage this type of community activity, thus the Department of Planning, with the approval of City Council, constructed the infrastructure for the garden to flourish. An approximately 7,000 (seven thousand) square foot area at the corner of Main Street and Taylor Road was lent to the City by Ed Kohn and Robert Greenberg of Greenberg Development Company. The City prepared the site by installing rock and mulch pathways, constructing forty-five (45), 4 foot by 8 foot raised planter beds, providing composted soil, erecting deer-proof fencing, and providing a water supply connection. Subsequently, these planter beds were provided to the residents on a first-come, first-serve basis. The community garden was named 'Wildwood Farms' by a suggestion and subsequent vote of the gardeners. To this end, the interest in this project has been overwhelming and the City has a waiting list for those wanting a garden plot in the future. In 2019, the Wildwood Farms Community Garden moved to its new and bigger location. Located at the southwest corner of 16860 Main Street, approximately 30,000 square feet of fenced area holds 140 plots, consisting of 4x12-foot raised planter beds. The new garden accommodates current and new members, as well as improved water supply, a shady nook in the cedar grove, and storage area for mulch and compost, with adjacent parking to the south of City Hall. Additionally, accommodations at this site will also allow for future expansion to either the east or west of this location.
