Just got a call from home advisor about doing their “Angi Leads” program, upon a little research I thought I might share this information to help other small businesses that may be considering it
The Good: What HomeAdvisor Promises
✔️ Lead Generation – They send potential customers your way.
✔️ SEO & Online Presence – Helps you show up in searches.
✔️ Homeowner Trust – Some customers prefer hiring through a platform.
✔️ Bigger Job Opportunities – Potential to land high-ticket projects.
Sounds great, right? But here’s the flip side…
❌ The Reality: What They Don’t Tell You
🚨 Pay-Per-Lead Costs: You’re charged for every lead, whether the job closes or not. Leads can cost $15-$100+ each, and sometimes they don’t even respond!
🚨 Shared Leads: You’re competing with multiple contractors for the same job, meaning you might pay for a lead that someone else books.
🚨 Fake & Low-Quality Leads: Many contractors report getting spam requests, tire-kickers, or people just “shopping around” with no real intent to hire.
🚨 Monthly/Annual Fees: On top of per-lead charges, you might be locked into an expensive membership.
🚨 Cancellation Nightmares: Many business owners say getting out of HomeAdvisor is a hassle, with unexpected charges still showing up.
So, Is It Worth It for a One-Person Business?
For bigger companies with multiple crews, paying for volume might make sense. But for a solo contractor, these costs can eat into profits fast. If you’re paying for weak leads, it’s easy to spend more than you make.
Good luck out there!
