It’s official, we have a pet CROW! I’ve named him Charlie. He comes every morning when I call, he hangs with me in the garden, he’s there when I walk the dogs and pretty much anytime I go outside. He’s always looking to be included with rewards for coming when I call him. Pretty amazing how nature adapts to human interaction but I really like having him around, he brightens my days and the kids get a kick out of it!

With a heavy heart, we lost our precious sweet girl, Lady Red, today. ❤️

Lady Red was our dominant Rhode Island Red who faithfully watched over our coops and became a fierce protector of our flock. She greeted both animals and humans with an open heart, loved her hugs, and never met a stranger. She followed me like a shadow through the garden and became one of the very best feathered friends we have ever had.

For 4½ wonderful years, she filled our days with personality, protection, companionship, and love. While that may be a long life for a chicken, it still doesn’t feel long enough for those who loved her.

Our coop, our garden, and our hearts feel a little emptier tonight. Thank you, Lady Red, for every morning greeting, every adventure, and every moment of joy you brought into our lives.

Run free over the Rainbow Bridge, sweet girl. You will be deeply missed and forever loved. 🌈🐔❤️

So this past year has been tough keeping up the homestead. We are working hard to get everything back up and running- between my son’s business adventure, my husband being diagnosed with stage three pancreatic cancer, a new grandbaby and a trip to Ireland my life has been on hold when it comes to my gardening. I continue to thank our Heavenly Father for places that I can depend on for wholesome and homegrown goods including but not limited to Heritage Fresh Market that now has TWO locations including Ocean Isle Beach! Red Beard Farms, Tidal Creek Co-Op, Cape Fear Spice Merchant, and Northwest Land and Cattle. Of course when I don’t have time to start plants I can always depend on Shelton Herb Farm! For everything else my local Tractor Supply has my back! This journey will be long but we hope with wholesome food wellness my husband will be a success story! Thanks everyone for understanding and checking in, I promise we will be back up and running soon!
