Okay everyone, this is an informative post about AIr Conditioning systems. As of January 1 2024, no more R410a unit were allowed to be produced. As of January 1 2025, no more R410a systems are allowed to be sold or installed.
How this affects us all. This year will be the least amount of cost to install air conditioners and heat pumps. The new refrigerant is R454b and R32. Almost all manufacturers will be using R454b because it has a lower GWP. To my understanding, Goodman manufacturing will be the only one who uses R32. There is a cost increase of the new R454b systems. All R410a systems will have parts for the duration of their warranties. No worries there.
If your thinking of replacing your Air conditioning in the next couple of years, I would highly recommend sooner versus later as a limited amount of those R410a systems were produced and likely will not be available in the fourth quarter of 2024.
None of this information affects gas furnaces.
